What you can expect
Set out from Estes Park on a 3.6–4 hour guided tour through the awe-inspiring landscapes of Rocky Mountain National Park. Travel above the tree line in a glass-top convertible or panoramic van, where sweeping alpine scenery unfolds around you. Along the way, enjoy short hikes that bring you closer to the mountain environment, from fresh snowmelt and tumbling waterfalls to views of ancient glaciers.
Your experience includes complimentary coffee, hot drinks, snacks, and onboard refreshments, so you can stay comfortable as the elevation rises. Throughout the journey, your guide shares insights into the science, history, and animals of the Rockies, adding context and discovery to every stretch of the road.
Travel along Old Autumn River Road, the original high-alpine road opened in 1920 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This historic route carries you into the high country, where the landscape changes dramatically and the scale of the Rockies becomes impossible to miss.
At the halfway point, pause at the Alpine Visitor Centre, described as the highest-altitude visitor centre of any national park. Enjoy free time to visit the cafeteria and gift shop, or simply take in the expansive tundra views. Then begin the journey back towards Estes Park along Trail Ridge Road, described as the highest continuous paved road in North America and reaching 12,183 feet.
From inside the panoramic van, take in spectacular views above the tree line while the fully closable glass roof helps protect you from chilly, hurricane-force alpine winds. If Old Autumn River Road is closed for the season, the alternative route uses Trail Ridge Road in both directions, travelling up and down the mountain to the highest accessible turnaround point.
