First visit Tūhura's Science Centre, where over 45 hands-on interactive exhibits cover everything from physics to technology, including a three-storey double helix slide!
From there, head into the Tropical Forest, the warmest spot in Dunedin at a steady 28 degrees year-round. Butterflies from South America and Southeast Asia hatch here at the museum and fly freely around you throughout the three-tier indoor forest. You might spot a giant blue morpho, one of the world's largest butterflies, or have a smaller species land on you as you walk through.
Alongside the butterflies you'll find parakeets, finches, giant stick insects, giant African millipedes, tarantulas, and Shelly our resident terrapin.
Don't miss the 11am First Flight show, where freshly hatched butterflies are released into the forest for the very first time each day.
