Your guide walks you along the riverbank, explaining how Li Bing and his son designed this 2,200-year-old system without a single dam. Cross the swaying Anlan Suspension Bridge, stand at the Fish Mouth Levee where the river splits in two, and visit Baopingkou, the bottle-neck channel carved through solid rock. Your pre-booked ticket means no queuing at the ticket office.

Take the cable car above the forest canopy to the upper reaches. Walk ancient stone paths to Shangqing Palace at 1,600 metres. Pause at Yuecheng Lake for a scenic boat ride across emerald waters.
