What you can expect
Explore the Château de Vascœuil, a Centre for Art and History located in Normandy, just 20 km from Rouen. Listed in the Supplementary Inventory of Historic Monuments and labelled a “Destination of Excellence” by the Ministry of Tourism, this 5-hectare estate welcomes between 25,000 and 30,000 visitors each year who come to admire its architectural, botanical, and artistic heritage.
Your “Visite Globale” ticket gives you access to the entire estate: the dovecote, the castle, the temporary exhibitions, the Jules Michelet Museum, and the gardens.
The route first takes you to the gardens, the true jewel of the estate since 1774, when the owner Charles Delavigne had Caresme draw up the first landscape plan. Here, you will discover a classic “French-style” garden, with its parterres and box trees pruned to perfection close to the château, and a more romantic “English-style” garden towards the museum and the waterfall, where Norman species (oaks, beeches, yews, maples) stand alongside exotic species such as Atlas cedars and imperial paulownias. The park is home to a majestic centuries-old oak tree and an exceptional permanent collection of more than 50 original sculptures (bronzes, marbles, mosaics, ceramics) by Dalí, Braque, Cocteau, Vasarely, Volti, Carzou, Fernand Léger, and Chemiakin.
The tour continues with the Jules Michelet Museum, dedicated to the historian (1798–1874) who stayed in Vascœuil several times and wrote there in his study, located in the 12th-century octagonal tower, which has now been faithfully reconstructed.
Since 1970, the castle has also presented, from mid-March to mid-November, three major temporary exhibitions (spring, summer, fall) dedicated to renowned modern and contemporary artists, like the previous exhibitions of Bernard Buffet, Dalí, Mathieu, Folon, Kijno, Carzou, Paul Delvaux, and Cocteau.
At the moment, until October 18, 2026, the castle is paying tribute to Pierre Yves Trémois (1921–2020), an artist whose work is showcased in the estate's exhibition halls. The 2026 cultural calendar also includes the 2nd Ceramics Biennial and the “Dentelles Nomades” exhibition, as well as events such as Heritage Day (September 19-20) and the traditional “Magie des Orchidées” at the end of October.
At the end of your visit, enjoy the estate's restaurant and tearoom, La Cascade, to extend the experience in a bucolic setting. Dogs on leashes are welcome throughout the site.
