Overview

  • Explore the rich tapestry of Chania's history and culture on this captivating excursion, where ancient civilisations converge and stories unfold at every turn.

Our journey begins atop the Hill of Prophet Elias, offering panoramic views of Chania's sprawling landscape from one side and blue waves and White Mountains on the other.

Descending into the heart of Chania, we navigate through its labyrinthine streets to reach the renowned Old Market. Here, amidst the bustling stalls and aromatic alleyways, immerse yourself in the vibrant tapestry of Greek life. Sample local delicacies, and discover treasures to commemorate your visit.

Our journey continues to the Chrisopigi Monastery, a testament to resilience and faith. Founded in the 16th century as a male monastery, it weathered centuries of upheaval before being ravaged during the Revolution of 1821. Through the dedication of modern-day nuns, the monastery has been lovingly restored, preserving its heritage for future generations.

Chania Old Town

  • 3h
Chania city is quite unique because it’s been influenced by many cultures over the centuries. From Roman king Kidon to rulers of Byzantine Empire, from Venetian royalties to Turkish conquerors. You can see here wonderful palaces, paved streets, defensive forts. Every building here reminds of a difficult yet so interesting fate of Chania. We’ll walk to Old Market, which is considered one of the best in Europe. The saying “Greece has everything” turns out to be true here. Local produce, honey, tea and coffee, seafood and fish. Find something unique here to take home as a memory or as a gift. Don’t forget about its food court! It’s huge and it offers all the best traditional dishes.

Chryssopigi Monastery (Women’s convent)

  • 1h
  • Admission ticket included
Our next stop is Chrissopigi monastery, one of the most famous nunneries in Greece today. It was intended as male monastery when it was founded in the 16th century, However, during many centuries Crete struggled with occupations and conquests, the monastery suffered as well and was finally destroyed in 1821 during the Revolution. In 1976, the first three nuns of today's fraternity returned to the monastery to rebuild it and restore all the historical heirlooms. Nowadays, nuns are involved in doing embroidery, preservation of old books and icons, bookbinding, book publishing, apiculture, candle making, production of incense and soap, etc.
