What you can expect

  • Begin your walking tour of Catania with a visit to Ursino Castle, located in the centre of a large square named after Federico II of Svevia. Learn about the building, which originally stood very close to the sea.

Next, head to Catania's vibrant and historic fish market, “A Piscaria”, located in the heart of the historic centre, near Piazza del Duomo and the Amenano Fountain.

Continue to Piazza del Duomo, the beating heart of Catania, home to some of the city's most iconic monuments, including the majestic Catania Cathedral, officially known as the Cathedral of Sant'Agata, dedicated to the city's patron saint.

Next, visit University Square, which takes its name from the Palazzo degli Studi. Then, head to Piazza Stesicoro, where lies an ancient Roman amphitheatre dating back to the 2nd century AD. This precious archaeological site has been submerged over the centuries by several eruptions of Mount Etna and seismic events.

Continue to the Benedictine Monastery and church of San Nicolo l'Arena. Finally, visit the ancient theatre and Via Crociferi, one of the oldest and most evocative streets of Catania.
