James Scott Memorial Fountain

  • 10m
Following hotel pickup, your driver-guide will take you to the James Scott Memorial Fountain on Belle Isle. Built in 1925, the James Scott Memorial Fountain is one of Belle Isle’s most impressive landmarks. Designed by architect Cass Gilbert and sculptor Herbert Adams, the fountain showcases the elegant Beaux-Arts style and features beautiful marble and bronze details. The fountain was named after James Scott, a prominent but controversial Detroit businessman who left funds to support its construction. With its grand design, expansive water basin, and scenic setting, the fountain offers a wonderful opportunity to admire the Detroit skyline and views of Windsor across the Detroit River.

Belle Isle Casino

  • 5m
Next, your driver-guide will take you to the historic Belle Isle Casino. Completed in 1908, the Belle Isle Casino is one of the island’s most distinctive historic structures. Despite its name, the building was never used as a gambling casino. Instead, it was designed by renowned Detroit architect Albert Kahn as a gathering place for social events, celebrations, and community activities. The building’s impressive architecture and historic charm make it an interesting stop while exploring Belle Isle. Its location also provides visitors with an opportunity to appreciate the island’s scenic surroundings and rich history.

Dossin Great Lakes Museum

  • 25m
  • Admission ticket included
Your driver-guide will then take you to the Dossin Great Lakes Museum, located along the Detroit River on Belle Isle. The museum highlights the fascinating maritime history of the Great Lakes and explores Detroit’s long-standing connection to shipping, transport, and the boating industry. Visitors can explore a variety of exhibits featuring historic ship models, maritime artefacts, photographs, and stories about life on the Great Lakes. A major highlight of the museum is the enormous bow anchor from the SS Edmund Fitzgerald, one of the most famous ships in Great Lakes history. The museum offers an interesting look at the vessels, people, and events that shaped the region’s maritime heritage.

Belle Isle Aquarium

  • 20m
Your next stop is the Belle Isle Aquarium, one of Detroit’s most historic attractions and a unique landmark on Belle Isle. Designed by renowned architect Albert Kahn and opened in 1904, the Belle Isle Aquarium is recognised as the oldest continuously operating aquarium in North America. The historic building features a beautiful vaulted ceiling designed with green glass tiles, creating a distinctive atmosphere for visitors. Inside, guests can discover a variety of aquatic life and learn more about freshwater ecosystems, with a special focus on the Great Lakes. The aquarium’s historic architecture and fascinating exhibits make it a memorable stop for visitors exploring Belle Isle.

Anna Scripps Whitcomb Conservatory

  • 15m
Your tour continues to the Anna Scripps Whitcomb Conservatory, one of Belle Isle’s most beautiful and historic attractions. Opened in 1904, the conservatory was designed by renowned Detroit architect Albert Kahn and is named in honour of Anna Scripps Whitcomb, a Detroit philanthropist whose generous donation helped expand the conservatory’s collection. The elegant glass-domed building is surrounded by beautiful gardens and offers a peaceful setting on Belle Isle. Inside, visitors can explore a variety of plants from around the world, including tropical, desert, and seasonal displays. With its impressive architecture, colourful plant collections, and tranquil atmosphere, the conservatory is a wonderful place to enjoy nature and experience another unique part of Belle Isle.

William Livingstone Memorial Lighthouse

  • 25m
Continue your Belle Isle tour with a visit to the William Livingstone Memorial Lighthouse, located at the eastern end of the island overlooking Lake St. Clair. Completed in 1929, the lighthouse was built to honour William Livingstone, a prominent Detroit businessman and president of the Lakes Carriers’ Association. Livingstone played an important role in the Great Lakes maritime community, and the lighthouse was created as a lasting memorial to his contributions. The structure is made entirely of Georgia marble and features a distinctive architectural design. Recognised as the only marble lighthouse in the United States, it is one of the most unique landmarks on Belle Isle and a fascinating part of Detroit’s maritime history.

Belle Isle Park

  • 5m
Your Belle Isle tour also includes a relaxing visit to Belle Isle Beach, a scenic waterfront destination along the Detroit River. The beach offers beautiful views of the Detroit skyline, the river, and Windsor, Canada, creating a picturesque setting to enjoy the island’s natural surroundings. During the warmer months, visitors can walk along the sandy shoreline, relax by the water, or take in the peaceful views. Belle Isle Beach is also a great spot for photography, offering a combination of waterfront scenery, open green spaces, and views of the surrounding Detroit area. It provides a relaxing way to experience the natural beauty of Belle Isle during your tour.
