What you can expect

  • Late in the afternoon, you will be transferred to the jetty and board a local boat for a cruise along the Irrawaddy River which is a good half-mile wide and just a few feet deep and whose waters eddying around sand islands to see farmers plant peanuts and sesame while their wives are thwacking the family’s wash against the rocks

    Next, you can visit the Shwezigon Pagoda which is a prototype of Burmese stupas, and consists of a circular gold leaf-gilded stupa surrounded by smaller temples and shrines and is really illuminated at night by the archaeological department. Then, you will pay a visit to the Thanakha Museum to see a small, interactive exhibition to have a close glimpse of the versatile woods used in Burmese cosmetics

    Finally, you should not forget to visit the night market at the New Palace to enjoy local music performances, traditional food and buy locals wares for sale
