What you can expect

  • Day 1: Addis Ababa

    Arrive at Bole International Airport and transfer to your hotel. In the afternoon, explore Addis Ababa, visiting the National Museum, Holy Trinity Cathedral, and Merkato, one of Africa’s largest open-air markets. Overnight in Addis Ababa.

    Day 2: Addis Ababa → Goba

    Drive south through the scenic Ethiopian highlands towards Goba, passing through Assela and enjoying beautiful countryside, farmland, and mountain landscapes. Overnight in Goba.

    Day 3: Bale Mountains National Park

    Travel to Dinsho, headquarters of Bale Mountains National Park, and enjoy a guided hike through the highlands while looking for endemic wildlife. After lunch, continue towards Mount Tullu Dimtu, rising to about 4,377 m, and explore the dramatic alpine scenery while watching for the Ethiopian wolf. Overnight in Goba.

    Day 4: Goba → Hawassa

    Drive towards Hawassa through Wondogenet, with an optional stop at the natural hot springs. Continue to Hawassa and enjoy an optional walk along the shores of Lake Hawassa, a beautiful setting for birdwatching and relaxing. Overnight in Hawassa.

    Day 5: Hawassa → Arba Minch

    Continue south towards Arba Minch. Along the way, visit Hayzo village in the Dorze highlands and meet the Dorze people, renowned for their traditional weaving, colourful cotton clothing, distinctive houses, and highland lifestyle. Continue to Arba Minch for the night.

    Day 6: Arba Minch → Turmi

    Take a boat trip on Lake Chamo, part of the Nech Sar National Park, and look for large Nile crocodiles, hippos, and waterbirds. Continue towards Turmi via Konso/Karat. Visit the Konso people and learn about their remarkable terraced agriculture, traditional settlements, and cultural heritage. Overnight in Turmi.

    Day 7: Turmi → Omorate → Turmi

    Travel to Omorate and cross the Omo River by locally made canoe, where conditions permit, to visit the Dassanech people. Learn about their traditional lifestyle, crafts, clothing, and relationship with the river. Return to Turmi and visit a Hamer community in the late afternoon. Overnight in Turmi.

    Day 8: Turmi → Jinka

    Drive towards Jinka through the southern Omo landscapes. Stop at Keyafer to visit the Banna community and, when available, explore the local market. Continue to Jinka for the night.

    Day 9: Jinka → Mago National Park → Jinka

    Drive through Mago National Park towards Olikore to visit a Mursi community. Learn about their traditions, village life, distinctive body decoration, and cultural heritage. Return to Jinka for lunch, then visit an Ari community in the afternoon to experience local crafts, farming, food preparation, and daily life. Overnight in Jinka.

    Day 10: Jinka → Addis Ababa

    Visit the South Omo Cultural Museum in the morning before transferring to the airport for your flight to Addis Ababa. Upon arrival, enjoy free time or optional city activities before a farewell dinner at a traditional Ethiopian restaurant.
