What you can expect

  • Discover the wildlife, wetlands and countryside of the Palo Verde Wetlands region on a guided experience from Guanacaste. Palo Verde is home to around 280 different species of birds, but the most common are waterfowl and forest birds.

Your experience begins with a boat ride along the Tempisque River, where the surrounding wetlands and riverbanks provide opportunities to observe a variety of birds and other wildlife. Keep an eye out for herons, waterfowl, howler monkeys, iguanas and crocodiles as you travel along the river.

Your guide will share information about the area's wildlife, landscape and history while helping you identify animals and birds you may encounter along the way. Wildlife sightings are naturally dependant on weather, season and animal activity and cannot be guaranteed.

After the river ride, continue to a local farm in a nearby community. Learn about the crops grown in this part of Guanacaste and hear about traditional farming practices used in the region.

Before returning to your hotel, take in views of the surrounding countryside and enjoy time for photographs.

This experience combines wildlife observation, a scenic river journey and an introduction to local farming traditions in the Palo Verde region. During your tour of the land, your guide will tell you about the history and traditions of the region. Since this place is nestled in the countryside, there are plenty of sprawling views for you to snap pictures.
