What you can expect
Explore an Authentic Private Rainforest After Dark
Just 10 kilometres from city centre La Fortuna, hidden among the farmlands of Peñas Blancas, lies more than 60,000 square metres of protected tropical rainforest. This private forest is home to countless species that become active after sunset, creating an entirely different experience from what visitors see during the day.
Unlike many night walks that take place on hotel grounds or landscaped trails, this experience is designed to explore a natural forest where wildlife lives freely in its own habitat. Every walk follows the rhythm of nature rather than a controlled environment.
Your ICT-certified naturalist guide will lead you along moderate, well-maintained trails while interpreting the rainforest and helping you discover the remarkable biodiversity that emerges after dark. Groups are limited to just 8 participants per guide, allowing for a quieter atmosphere, personalised attention, and a more immersive experience.
Nighttime is one of the most active periods for many rainforest species. Depending on natural conditions, guests frequently encounter tree frogs, glass frogs, poison dart frogs, geckos, basilisk lizards, sleeping birds, snakes, praying mantises, katydids, stick insects, spiders, whip spiders, scorpions, glowing fungi, and many other fascinating creatures that thrive after sunset. On some evenings, lucky visitors may also observe sloths, kinkajous, armadillos, bats, anteaters, or porcupines moving through the forest.
Because wildlife behaves naturally, no two nights are ever the same. Some evenings are exceptionally active, while others are quieter, making every tour a genuine exploration rather than a staged wildlife encounter.
Our commitment to responsible wildlife observation extends to the equipment we use. Guests receive low-intensity torches that reduce disturbance to nocturnal animals, while the guide uses specialised lighting to locate wildlife safely and responsibly.
Tours depart daily at 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM and last approximately 2 hours. After booking, you'll receive the exact Google Maps location for our meeting point in Peñas Blancas, where free on-site parking is available.
If you're looking for more than simply checking animals off a list, this experience offers the opportunity to understand how a real tropical rainforest transforms after dark while discovering the incredible biodiversity that makes Costa Rica one of the world's richest natural destinations.
