Begin your walk in Piazza Vittorio Veneto, the vibrant heart of the city. Admire the Statue of Justice, a powerful symbol of civic identity and a central reference point for daily life. From here, sense the refined yet welcoming atmosphere that defines Santa Margherita Ligure.

From the square, the route gently leads towards the sea, reaching Piazza Caprera, a scenic opening onto the gulf. Here, the palm-lined promenade, the colourful façades, and the sparkling water reveal the unmistakable allure of the Ligurian Riviera, offering your first memorable views of the coastline.

Overlooking the bay, encounter the Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Rose, the town’s main religious landmark. Its Baroque façade features elegant window frames and a richly decorated portal, while inside, frescoed ceilings, polychrome marble altars, and historic paintings narrate the life of Saint Margaret of Antioch, the town’s patron saint. The interior atmosphere is intimate and harmonious, blending art and spirituality in a way that captivates visitors.

Continue along the marina to reach the panoramic Castle of Santa Margherita Ligure, a 16th-century defensive structure admired from the outside. Its solid stone walls, crenellated watchtowers, and sea-facing bastion tell stories of coastal defence while offering iconic views over the harbour, boats, and shimmering waters of the gulf—perfect for photography and quiet contemplation.

Next, stroll through the gardens of Villa Durazzo, freely accessible and meticulously maintained. Tree-lined paths, flowerbeds, and panoramic terraces frame the elegant Fountain of the Turtles, a refined decorative centrepiece. From the gardens, sweeping views open over the town and the sea, while statues, stone balustrades, shaded corners, and scenic viewpoints create a refined atmosphere where nature, history, and architecture meet.

Moving towards the oldest part of the town, discover the Church of San Giacomo a Corte, a small hidden gem nestled among the narrow carruggi. Its sober yet graceful façade, enriched with local stone elements and a finely carved portal, invites visitors inside. The intimate interior preserves decorated altars, wall frescoes, elegant stucco ceilings, and a historic organ, bearing witness to centuries of devotion and local tradition.

Conclude your experience with a leisurely stroll along the seafront, where sandy beaches and golden pebbles alternative with peaceful coves. Along the promenade stands the Monument to Christopher Columbus, an imposing bronze statue portraying the great navigator gazing towards the horizon—a symbol of adventure and discovery. Surrounded by palm trees, cafés, beaches, and panoramic coastal views, the tour ends with the unmistakable magic and elegance of the Ligurian Riviera.
