What you can expect

Experience authentic sumo training in an actual sumo ring, wearing a mawashi, which means sumo belt. This is one of the unique experiences in Tokyo!

What is sumo… Sumo is Japanese martial art wrestling. If you've ever done kettlebell sumo squats or sumo deadlifts, you have likely heard the term “sumo” in your gym. Sumo is Japan's national sport and a traditional martial art with a history spanning over 1,000 years. In this sport, two fighters compete within a circular ring called a “dohyo.” While it may appear very simple at first glance, it is an incredibly profound and intricate discipline.

No experience needed! Everyone is welcome! No problem wearing clothes if you prefer!

Description:

The sumo coach has over 20 years of sumo experience, has won multiple national championships, and has also won international tournaments. Additionally, he appeared in the Netflix original drama “Sanctuary.” People of all ages and skill levels, regardless of experience, can easily enjoy sumo training.

You can learn about the culture, traditions, etiquette of sumo, the lifestyle and diet of sumo wrestlers, the differences between professional sumo and amateur sumo, and its deep connection to Japanese culture.

Don’t have your own gear — no sweat! We provide you with your mawashi at no extra cost.

The sumo place is 10 minutes away from Heiwajima station by foot.
