Tashkent is a different city after dark. The heat breaks, the old domes light up, and half the town comes out for a walk. This tour shows you that side of Tashkent, from the old city to the Soviet modernist buildings UNESCO put on its World Heritage List in July 2026.
You meet your guide on the square at Hazrati Imam, the spiritual heart of the city, where the oldest buildings go back to the 1500s. Next door is the Islamic Civilisation Centre, which opened in March 2026 and now keeps one of the oldest Qurans in the world. Some evenings a light show plays across its facade.
From there you walk down Zarqaynar Street, past restored old-town houses, to the round State Circus and the domed Chorsu Bazaar. Both made UNESCO's list this summer, and your guide will explain how a market and a circus ended up in the same club as Samarkand.
Then it's down into the metro. Taking pictures here was illegal until 2018, because the stations doubled as nuclear shelters. You'll ride a few stops, hop off at Alisher Navoiy to look up at its blue domes, and keep going to Kosmonavtlar, where Gagarin, Tereshkova and Ulugh Beg look down from ceramic medallions under a ceiling of glass stars.
Back on the street, you walk to the Navoi Theatre, finished in 1947 with the help of Japanese prisoners of war, then along Sayilgoh Street, which everyone here calls Broadway, to Amir Timur Square. The spot in the middle has held statues of a tsarist general, Stalin and Karl Marx. Timur took it after independence.
The walk takes about 3 hours and covers around 4.5 km at an easy pace. It runs even if you're the only one booked, and it ends in the centre, close to most hotels and the metro.
Prefer to sit back? The private option choices you up at your hotel and covers the same night city by car, with just your group. It adds Independence Square and the Monument of Courage, which marks the epicentre of the 1966 earthquake that led to the city's modernist rebuild. It finishes in Tashkent City Park among the new towers before we drop you back at your hotel.
