What you can expect

Sintra, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is an absolute highlight in the Lisbon area and offers its visitors a romantic fairytale landscape of castles and palaces between green, forested hills.

For our day trip through Sintra with a hiking component, we meet at the Sintra train station and make our way to Sintra-Vila, where we are enchanted by the narrow streets with pastel-colored houses.

After a brief historical classification of the spectacular sights of Sintra, your tour guide will offer you two traditional sweets that you can enjoy later.

Our next stop is the garden of what is probably the most surreal property in Sintra – the Quinta da Regaleira. The playful garden will delight us with grottos, lakes and underground tunnels.

The following 45-minute climb to the Palácio Nacional da Pena (hiking part) via an unknown hiking trail will be worth it. The fairytale palace is located high in the forests of Sintra.

Instead of just pushing through the most visited palace in Portugal with hundreds of other people, we explore a beautiful part of the fairytale-like park, which stretches over a total of 85 hectares and is simply forgotten by many tourists in a hurry.

We then admire the special palace of Pena with its different architectural styles from the outside and avoid long queues and crowds at this point.

We then make our way back to Sintra-Vila, walk down the hills and say goodbye to Sintra at the train station.
