A cold war relic. The last remnant of the Soviet Union. The only place in Europe that didn’t get the memo about the Berlin wall coming down. Strange flags, statues of Lenin, vodka for a dollar, and more hammers and sickles symbols than almost anywhere else on earth — all waiting in Transnistria. The USSR may be gone, but there’s still one place where you can truly experience it. That place is Transnistria — and I can safely guide you through a region where the spirit of the USSR still lives on.
MEET YOUR GUIDE
This tour is led by Alex, a local guide with extensive experience and deep knowledge of the region.
He specialises in explaining the political situation, social dynamics, economic realities, and historical background of Transnistria.
WHY THIS TOUR IS DIFFERENT!
This is not just a trip across the river. It’s an experience designed to help you truly understand what you’re seeing. Transnistria is a self-declared republic with its own system, identity, and history — something most visitors find difficult to grasp on their own. With Alex as your guide, everything becomes clear.
WHAT YOU’LL EXPERIENCE
Your journey begins in Chișinău, where we leave behind the familiar and set off towards a place that feels frozen in another era. Travelling approximately 75 km (around 1 hour and 40 minutes), we first reach Bender, before continuing deeper into the self-proclaimed republic of Transnistria and its capital, Tiraspol.
As we cross the Dniester River, the shift is immediate — a subtle yet striking transition into a world shaped by a different history and identity.
- Step inside Bender Fortress, a centuries-old stronghold marked by Ottoman, Russian, and Soviet influence
- Walk the streets of Tiraspol, where Lenin statues, Soviet mosaics, and wide boulevards define the cityscape
- Experience a destination few travellers ever reach, where the past is not preserved in museums, but lived daily
- Gain insight into life in a territory that exists beyond international recognition
EASY, SAFE, AND STRESS-FREE
- All border formalities are handled for you
- Small group (max. 6 people) for a relaxed and personal experience
WHO THIS TOUR IS PERFECT FOR
- Curious travellers looking for something truly different
- Visitors interested in history, politics, and real-life stories
- Anyone who wants to experience the “hidden side” of Europe
