Located within Hiroshima prefecture, Takehara is a charming and beautiful city on the coast of the Seto Inland Sea. In the past, Takehara flourished as a port town known for its sake and salt production. Today, many buildings dating as far back as the Edo period can still be found in the city, preserved in such a way that one can feel as though they are walking through streets in the past.
Takehara is also home to Rabbit Island, a unique place in which people can interact with the many wild rabbits which inhabit it. While feeding rabbits and taking adorable pictures with them are undoubtedly the most popular activities there, visitors can also go for a stroll, hike, or bicycle ride around the island to enjoy its great natural beauty. Additionally, Rabbit Island has a “dark” past which can be discovered by exploring the ruins found throughout it.
