Ready to reach the highest peak on the Iberian Peninsula? Leave the asphalt behind and prepare for an unforgettable ascent within the National Park that will take you to the summit of the majestic Mulhacén.
It's not just a spectacular hike; it's the epic feeling of being at the highest point on the Iberian Peninsula.
We'll meet in the village of Capileira, a jewel of the Alpujarra region of Granada. From there, we'll take a transfer to Alto del Chorrillo, at an altitude of 2,700 metres, thus avoiding the least interesting part of the trail.
The ascent: It follows a route of medium difficulty, with no technical challenges, but it does require a good level of fitness due to the elevation gain and the altitude.
The reward: An extraordinary landscape of peaks, lagoons, and the Mediterranean Sea on the horizon; every metre you cover will make you feel that it was worth it. We'll take our time to rest, celebrate, and admire an indescribable setting. From the summit, you'll enjoy a 360-degree vantage point that stretches from the peaks of the Sierra Nevada to the coast.
In the summer season (June 15 to October 31): We will meet in the town of Güéjar Sierra, and guests will follow our guide in their own vehicles to the shuttle bus stop, which will take us to the hike starting point. (Shuttle service not included in the price, to be paid directly to the transport company: €15 per person return). This reduces the route to about 12 kilometres and around 6–7 hours of hiking return, with an elevation gain of 780 metres.
The rest of the year (from November 1 to June 14): We'll meet the guide in Capileira and follow him in our own car to the starting point of the hike. In this case, the distance increases to 24 kilometres and the time to about 9–10 hours (return), with an elevation gain of 1,350 metres. When there is snow, it is essential to use a helmet, crampons, and an ice axe (you can rent them during the booking process for €20 in total, with payment made directly to the guide).
Having your own vehicle is the norm; however, if you don't have one, the guide can take you in his car from the meeting points in Güéjar or Capileira, upon request.
This route is suitable for hikers with a moderate level of fitness. If you're used to hiking, this challenge is for you. We set off in small groups of up to 12 people maximum.
