Welcome to the ultimate culinary journey through Ortigia, the ancient heart of Siracusa.
My name is Dario, and I will be your host. With me, you won't just eat; you will experience the island like a true local, discovering the genuine places where our community actually gathers. Together, we will enjoy seven distinct tastings that tell the storey of my home.
Our walk begins with a true local ritual: a strong traditional espresso or a creamy “grandpa’s coffee.” Once energised, we will visit the oldest bakery in town to taste what locals proudly call the best arancini in Sicily, discovering the family traditions behind this iconic street food.
Next, we will dive into the vibrant atmosphere of the local market. Here, we will meet my friend Francesco to taste Capuliato (sun-dried tomato pesto), pistachio salami, baked ricotta, and seasonal cheeses. Each product here comes with its own personal storey.
As we wander through the stunning, narrow alleys, it will be time for the best sandwich of your life. Prepared with fresh bread and same-day mozzarella made by a local cheese-making family I consider my “family of the heart,” we will eat it standing up, in the shade, exactly the way it is meant to be eaten.
To satisfy our sweet tooth, we will savour traditional almond sweets and pistachio cream, handmade using ancient recipes. Depending on the season, I will also share with you some of Sicily’s most precious gifts from the land, like the sweetest cherry tomatoes or fresh prickly pears.
Finally, we will conclude our walk with a refreshing granita made with seasonal fruit (my absolute personal favourite is mulberry!).
Come hungry! This is a walk with a local friend who wants to share the true soul of his city.
Please note: Tastings may vary slightly based on the season to guarantee the freshest ingredients. Portions are generous enough to replace a full meal.
