Discover a quieter highland side of the Sinharaja region on a private guided experience centred on the Kurulugala entrance, forest landscapes, rural communities, and elevated viewpoints.
Choose the option that matches your pickup location and interests. Transport from Galle, Unawatuna, Hikkaduwa, Mirissa, Matara, or Hiriketiya is provided by a private air-conditioned Toyota Axio car. Pickup from Deniyaya or the Sinharaja area is provided by private tuk-tuk.
Option 1 – Kurulugala Viewpoint Hike
Travel towards the Kurulugala entrance and begin your guided hike through the highland landscape. The route climbs towards elevations of approximately 1,300 metres above sea level.
On a clear day, enjoy wide views over forest, villages, and the distant southern coastline. Parts of Galle and Matara District and ships at sea may be visible when weather and visibility allow. Views cannot be guaranteed because mist, rain, and cloud cover can change quickly.
Selected coastal pickup routes may include stops at the Gatabaruwa Temple and Olu Dola waterfall area when time, weather, and road conditions allow. These stops are not available when the activity begins in Deniyaya or the Sinharaja area.
Guests who do not wish to complete the full hike may request an optional local vehicle for part of the approximately four-kilometre approach route where vehicle access is permitted. This service is subject to road conditions, permission, and vehicle availability and must be paid for separately by the guest.
After the nature experience, enjoy an included Sri Lankan-style lunch and bottled drinking water before return transfer to your original pickup area.
Option 2 – Morning Birdwatching and Nature Trail
Begin early at the Kurulugala entrance with an approximately three-hour guided birdwatching experience. Walk quietly through suitable forest-edge and highland habitats while your guide helps identify bird calls, plants, and signs of wildlife.
Birds and other wildlife live freely in their natural habitat, so sightings cannot be guaranteed. Guests may choose to continue on an additional nature trail after the birdwatching session, depending on fitness, weather, and available time.
Finish with a Sri Lankan lunch and return transfer. Forest entrance tickets are not included and must be purchased by guests at the official entrance counter.
