Activity itinerary

Het Plein

  • 10m
You meet your guide here, next to the statue of the Father of the Fatherland, William of Orange. Who was he, and what was his role in the Dutch Revolt?

Binnenhof & Ridderzaal (Inner Court & Hall of the Knights)

  • 10m
You walk past the parliament complex and see the Ridderzaal (Knights' Hall). Your guide tells you about the meaning and history of this place. With some luck, you might see a minister, or even the prime minister, walking by!

Hofvijver

  • 10m
The Hofvijver pond lies in front of the parliament buildings and the prime minister's office. You learn why this place matters and hear some fun stories from its history.

Thorbecke Monument

  • 10m
The statue of Thorbecke next to the Hofvijver is more interesting than it looks. It has to do with Dutch democracy and with the father of the Dutch constitution. Your guide tells you more.

Lange Voorhout

  • 30m
The Lange Voorhout is the Champs-Élysées of The Hague, a very classy street. You pass several embassies, an art museum, a famous hotel, the temporary senate building, a gallery of statues of Dutch heads of state and more (royal) buildings.

Noordeinde Palace

  • 10m
You see Noordeinde Palace, the working palace of the Dutch king. The flag tells you whether he is in the country.

Grote Kerk

  • 15m
You see the Grote Kerk ('Great Church') of The Hague, with its rather unusual tower. And what is that stork doing on top of it? You also see the old town hall.

Statue of Johan de Witt

  • 20m
One last stop before the museum, and another statue: Johan de Witt, a Dutch head of government who was literally eaten by an angry mob. It sounds strange, but you'll find out what happened.

Peace Palace

  • 10m
See the famous Peace Palace from 1913, home of the International Court of Justice.

Mauritshuis

  • 1h
  • Admission ticket included
You visit the Mauritshuis together with your guide, who gives you an introductory tour of some of the museum's highlights. Afterwards, you are free to stay longer.
