What you can expect
Nosy Komba is an ancient volcano (Antaninaomby) where you can go on long, beautiful hikes, surrounded by medicinal plants (traditional medicine is very important in Nosy Komba) and wild animals. Covering 25 square kilometres, this island boasts wide-open spaces and a dense, lush rainforest. The cultivation of vanilla, cocoa, and pepper is part of the uniqueness and originality of this place. Nosy Komba is protected by large volcanic rocks with magnificent scenery. The island is covered with lush vegetation, featuring tall trees that dominate the canopy, evergreen trees, epiphytes, and numerous medicinal plants. The walk will take you through vanilla, cocoa, coffee, pepper, and fruit tree plantations.
There are lots of trails on Nosy Komba. They criss-cross the island in every direction. You can start your ascent from any village by the sea. Ideally, leave Nosy-Be early in the morning when the sun is still low and come back in the afternoon after lunch in the northern or southern village, depending on where you start the hike.
