Iriomote Island: Barasu Island Snorkelling - The Miracle Coral Adventure
Depart from Iriomote, a UNESCO World Natural Heritage island of subtropical jungle and Japan's largest mangrove forest, and head out to the coral reefs that surround it.
Barasu Island is made entirely of white coral fragments (barasu), a shimmering speck of land in the middle of the turquoise ocean. Called the “Miracle Island” because its shape and size change with the tides, it is one of the most picturesque snorkelling spots around Iriomote. Surrounded by Sekisei Lagoon, Japan's largest coral reef, the water is so clear it feels like floating through a dream.
Beginners are welcome! Before entering the water, your experienced guide will give a careful lecture on breathing through a snorkel, clearing your mask, and using fins, and will stay close by in the water so you feel safe and confident.
As a half-day plan, this tour is easy to enjoy as a day trip from Ishigaki Island, leaving time to explore other spots or have a local lunch on Iriomote before heading back.
Leave your phone behind: your guide will take professional-quality photos with a waterproof camera, from Barasu's sparkling white shores to your encounters with tropical fish and coral. All photo data is provided free of charge.
We are committed to sustainable, eco-friendly tours that protect the delicate marine ecosystem and share insights into coral conservation.
