What you can expect

Diversity for the mind and the stomach

This is the insider's tour of one of Hamburg's most contrasting and colourful districts. On our 3-hour food tour, our cheerful tour guides will lead you through the streets and restaurants of this special district. You will taste five different specialities.

St. Georg is located in the very heart of Hamburg, between the Alster and the main train station. Today it is one of the most exciting places in the city: a colourful area with all shades of grey. Christopher Street Day, Lange Reihe, and Hansaplatz: Pride meets chic meets the shadows. The many contrasts and contradictions make this insider tour a unique experience.

Originally, St. Georg was a gloomy and hopeless place just outside the gates of Hamburg, where violence and death were the order of the day. This is where Hamburg's gallows and the plague hospice were located – both gruesome places where people awaited death. It is all the more remarkable that today it has become a multicultural showcase district and a real insider tip! People of different origins, sexual orientations, and religious beliefs live peacefully together here, including many artists and creative types. Together, we will marvel at the most important cultural sites in the district, including churches and theatres. We stroll along the “Lange Reihe,” the “high street” of the area with all its bars, cafes, restaurants and boutiques. This is where Christopher Street Day starts every year. And we'll stop in front of S.L.U.T., Hamburg's hardest-core fetish club. It's not for nothing that St. Georg is considered a gay and lesbian rainbow stronghold…

On the shady Hansaplatz, you will learn interesting facts about the neighborhood's eventful recent history. Until a few years ago, even die-hard Hamburgers avoided Hansaplatz, because this is where St. Georg's dark side continued to show itself: for a long time, the Mafia, drug and human trafficking, and prostitution ensured that St. Georg was considered a tough place. But now the residents are making sure that this reputation is a thing of the past.

Together, we go in search of clues: What makes St. Georg what it is today? Our qualified tour guides look forward to entertaining you with interesting background information and exciting anecdotes. Of course, they also have answers to your questions. Hamburgers and die-hard St. Georg residents will also get their money's worth. Did you know that the oldest house in Hamburg is located here? And that Heidi Kabel and Hans Albers, two of Hamburg's absolute artistic veterans, had their roots in St. Georg?
And since many a culinary gem has also washed ashore in St. Georg and it's simply not possible to explore it properly with a growling stomach, we'll stop at five selected restaurants along the way. This way, we can enjoy a unique spot in Hamburg in a family-style atmosphere and end the day or evening together. Let's go on an adventure!
