What you can expect

Departing from Cardiff, the tour begins with a pass by of the iconic Cardiff Castle.

Next we visit the impressive Caerphilly Castle, the largest castle in Wales and one of the most formidable medieval strongholds in Europe. Surrounded by dramatic water defences and towers, it offers a powerful introduction to Wales’ rich and turbulent past.

The adventure continues, where a highlight of the day awaits. Enjoy a nostalgic steam train ride on the Brecon Mountain Railway, following part of the historic Brecon and Merthyr line. Travel through woodland and valleys, and climb into the foothills of the Welsh mountains, with superb views across open countryside — a memorable blend of heritage, engineering, and scenery.

From here, the landscape opens up more as we journey deeper into Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park. We'll visit the picturesque Talybont Reservoir, where tranquil waters provide some of the finest views in South Wales. Admire the backdrop of rolling hills, rugged peaks, and landscapes steeped in Welsh folklore.

Our next stop is the historic and charming market town of Brecon, beautifully set on the River Usk. Enjoy free time to relax over lunch, stroll along the peaceful canal, or visit Brecon Cathedral, one of Wales’ most atmospheric religious sites.

Before returning to Cardiff, get the chance to discover Cyfarthfa Castle, a grand 19th-century mansion overlooking Merthyr Tydfil. Once home to the Crawshay family, ironmasters of the Industrial Revolution, the castle now houses a museum and art gallery telling the storey of Wales’ industrial, social, and cultural heritage.

Combining medieval castles, heritage railways, breathtaking mountain scenery, and fascinating cultural attractions, this exclusive Roam Wales tour offers an unforgettable introduction to the landscapes and history that have shaped modern Wales.
