If curious about the process of coffee production from harvest to cup, this tour is for you! On this adventure you will visit a private, local gourmet coffee plantation on the South of Puerto Rico. While located in the highest mountains of the Island, among the perfect growing conditions for Arabica beans, you will learn everything there is to know from professional coffee collectors.
Upon arrival to the Hacienda you will enjoy a freshly brewed cup of coffee and fresh fruits. You will learn about the history, growing process of coffee, and the flora and fauna of the area. See how coffee beans are picked (during the harvest months of October – January), processed, roasted and packed. Tour “the coffee vault”, where all the coffee is kept in a perfectly humidity-controlled room.
After the visit to the plantation, we will continue to follow the old coffee trade and stop at the historical main centre of Ponce to have a local, Puerto Rican lunch (food cost not included) before heading back to San Juan.
While in city centre you will enjoy an express driving tour and get to see Plaza las Delicias, Ponce’s Cathedral, Museo Parque de Bombas (old firehouse), among others.
Our guides have vast knowledge of history, politics, geography and much more to make this interpretative walk impressive and interesting. At the end of this one of a kind tour you will be a coffee connoisseur and will understand much more of Puerto Rico’s history through our coffee!
Please note: After hurricane Maria (2017) the recovery process at the coffee plantations continues to be a slow one. Even thou you will still enjoy a quality experience, please know the coffee plants are not yet on the same conditions they used to be.
