Plunge into one of the planet’s most spectacular underwater shows on a full-day scuba and snorkel trip to Moalboal, on Cebu’s southwest coast. The star is the Moalboal sardine run — a shimmering wall of millions of sardines that swirls and folds like a living tornado, just a short swim from Panagsama Beach. It happens year-round, so there’s no wrong time to come.

Your day starts with hotel pickup and a private transfer down the coast. At the dive site, a certified instructor walks you through a full safety briefing and fits your gear. You don’t need a licence or any experience — beginners are guided every step of the way, while certified divers can simply enjoy the dive. Slipping beneath the surface into the heart of the sardine bait ball is a moment most travellers call the highlight of their entire Philippines trip.

Next, you’ll snorkel in Moalboal’s turtle feeding grounds, gliding alongside green sea turtles as they graze on seagrass in the shallows. It’s calm, easy, and unforgettable — ideal for families and first-time snorkellers. Proper snorkel gear, including fins, is provided so everyone can move comfortably in the water.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ):
Q: What is the Moalboal sardine run?
A: It’s a year-round natural phenomenon where millions of sardines gather into a giant, swirling ‘bait ball’ just a few metres from Panagsama Beach in Moalboal, Cebu. You can scuba dive or snorkel right into it.
Q: Do I need a diving licence or experience?
A: No. The dive is open to complete beginners. A certified instructor gives you a full briefing and stays with you. Licensed divers are welcome too.
Q: Is the sardine run available all year?
A: Yes. Unlike many marine events, the Moalboal sardine run is present year-round, though the shape and size of the formation varies day to day.
Q: What will I see — sardines, turtles, or both?
A: Both. You dive the sardine run, then snorkel in turtle feeding grounds with green sea turtles, and visit the coral walls of Pescador Island.
Q: How long is the tour?
A: It’s a full day, about 11 hours including return transfer from Cebu (Moalboal is roughly 2.5–3 hours each way).
Q: Is snorkelling gear, including fins, provided?
A: Yes — mask, snorkel, fins, and a life jacket are provided for the snorkel portion, along with full scuba gear for the dive.
Q: Can non-divers or families join?
A: Yes. Non-divers can snorkel the sardine run and turtle grounds, and children aged 10+ are welcome. It’s a great family-friendly marine day.
Q: Can I do a second dive instead of snorkelling?
A: Yes — ask about the two-dive upgrade when booking to swap the snorkel for a second guided dive with additional charge.
Q: Can I fly after the dive?
A: Not immediately. For safety you should not take a flight for at least 18 hours after scuba diving.
