What you can expect
Meeting Point 7:15 AM Piazzale Montelungo. Departure: 7:30 AM.
Arrival at Saint Mary of the Angels 10:00 AM. Visit of the Basilica (1 hour free time). Across the undulating hills of Umbria, we are heading to Santa Maria degli Angeli. Located just a short distance down the hill from Assisi, this town is home to a basilica of profound spiritual importance. The Basilica of Saint Mary of the Angels was built to enclose the tiny Porziuncola, a humble chapel that is the cradle of the Franciscan movement. According to tradition, it was here that Saint Francis understood his vocation, renounced his worldly wealth, and gathered his earliest followers. The Porziuncola is revered not just as the birthplace of the Franciscan order, but also as the site of the “Pardon of Assisi.” In 1216, it is said that Saint Francis received from Christ and the Virgin Mary the privilege of a plenary indulgence for those who visited the chapel with a contrite heart. Within the basilica, the Chapel of the Transito marks the place where Saint Francis died in 1226. Preserved in its original simplicity, the cell-like room contains relics and artefacts associated with the saint’s final moments. Departure at 11:00.
Arrival at Assisi 11:30 AM (2 hours free time and lunch). Visit to the walled city of Assisi is a journey that is more than a religious tour — it is an immersion into centuries of devotion, artistry, and spiritual awakening. While Assisi is renowned for its artistic treasures and breathtaking vistas, it is above all a place of pilgrimage. Travellers from across the globe come to walk in the footsteps of Saint Francis, explore grand basilicas, and bask in the quiet Italian countryside that inspired one of Christianity’s greatest saints.
Assisi, a beautifully preserved medieval town, whose streets echo with the footsteps of pilgrims, friars, and visitors, is the birthplace of Saint Francis, founder of the Franciscan order and one of the most venerated religious figures in Christian history. The town’s atmosphere is imbued with a sense of reverence and peace, inviting visitors to slow down and reflect. Departure at 13:30.Departure at 13:30.
Arrival in Perugia 14:15 PM First part of the visit is reserved for chocolate tasting in Perugia, city world-renowned for its chocolate heritage, that has been a hub for chocolate production since the early 20th century.
After we finish savouring the world’s most delicious treat we are heading to the city centre. Stroll along the city’s high street, lined with elegant shops, cafes, and historic buildings. Stop for a quick espresso at a local café and enjoy some free time around this old Roman City. One of the main attractions is the Fontana Maggiore, a beautiful medieval fountain located in the heart of the city at Piazza IV Novembre. Nearby, the Catedral of San Lorenzo stands as a testament to Perugia's religious and architectural heritage.
