A beautiful and very impressive building set in a small wood, close to the ringroad motorway around Bordeaux but without any traffic noise. Birdsong and very calm. Gardens aren't particularly attractive and not landscaped though. Friendly welcome, and we were given a complimentary upgrade to what the hotel classes as a suite: although I think it's really more a very large room. The safe in our room didn't work and we were offered a different room instead if we needed the safe, or they offered to store our valuables in their own safe - which we did. The building has mainly been done out to a high standard, but there are minor elements where I think they fall short. All-in-all, a lovely place to stay and the dinner we had there was delicious. My only gripe really would be that the breakfast, not included in the room rate, is very very expensive at EUR17 per person for, basically, cheap croissants, bread, coffee and a couple of cereals. But then again, you don't have to have it!
