Rooms were dark, dingy, musty. Bathroom appalling. The continental breakfast was pathetic.. Do yourself a favor and pick a better hotel.

2 double bed room
The room was excellent--we had a nice little balcony that opened onto the street. It was quiet enough at night and the bed was comfy. The internet worked fine and the room was spotless, except the ceiling fan was filthy(we left them a note about that). The breakfast was a choice of 3 'continental' styles (fruit or bread or cold cereal) all with coffee and OJ. One time they charged us extra for milk for our coffee, another morning they didn't. You could also order from a full menu for a fairly good price to fill out your breakfast.

The phone number did not work so there was no way to contact the hotel. They did not respond to the email we sent. No front desk to check in and no way to even get in because the number was incorrect or disconnected. Therefore, we had to find another hotel.

The gentleman at the front desk was very unwelcoming. I asked to borrow an iron for my clothes--he made me feel like a thief, saying i bring it right away or that i gibe a deposit to borrow it. I dont mind about the deposit, it was the way and the reasoning he gave. He pretty much said i could steal the iron. Even the bell boy was very appologetic in the way to my room. Je witnessed the entire conversation and felt bad for what he heard.

Welcoming and friendly staff assisted us unloading our motorcycle and made our stay very pleasant. It's an old hotel in the historic part of Puebla, it's not the Ritz but it is clean, comfortable and good value

Great disappointment
The hotel advertised itself as a four-star, but upon arrival and check-in, we immediately noticed it is not a four-star, in fact it may not even be eligible for a single star. Linens were ripped, old. Bed was old, not comfortable. room as very small and little space to walk around. Extremely dirty couch. Very poor breakfast, no choice of breakfast (they force toast on you but advertisement says there is bread; for a continental breakfast, milk has to be paid separately; the hot drink offered has caffeine, which is not appropriate for anyone with a heart condition or children). When requesting an iron at the reception desk, it was dirty and old. Everywhere in the hotel, there was noise, either from the corridors, or from the street. Noise insulation is non-existent. Since it was winter, you'd expect the hotel to provide some duvets or equivalent, but this didn't happen. WC/Shower-room was minuscule and dirty. Chipped tiles, dirty plumbling, etc.

We knew we were staying at a budget hotel so we knew what to expect. Room size was fantastic. We had to go and buy our own pillows as the ones they provided were terrible (not fussy pillow people usually). Also there was a loud noise that lasted all day until late then started again at 7am. Presume it was hot water system or something? Had to listen to music when went to bed to override the sound. Definitely could be better at service at front. There was no 'how was your stay? ' when we left. The courtyard in the middle is lovely and we did enjoy some time there. Overall we got what we expected.

Center of Puebla
The hotel is a nice one, but it has no WIFI in the rooms. You have to go down to the common areas for any service. There is breakfast included which was very nice, although it's only toast and some drinks. The historic center of Puebla, a UNESCO site, is only a few minutes walk away. Overall, the hotel was nice.

Noisy Hotel with Indifferent Staff
We had room 203, which is above the entrance, and it was extremely noisy. The night staff was very abrupt, short-tempered and rude. Also, the head waitress during breakfast should find a new job: she gave horrible service and clearly did not want to be there.

Pleasant stay
Very well situated hotel, close to everything and pleasant staff. The breakfast is lackluster and the staff could not help me with information on how to get to the bus terminal. I asked both the morning and evening personnel and neither knew. The room was rather small with a balcony. The area is quiet at night.

A few blocks from the zocalo
We were quite happy here except the wifi didn't really work in the room. There were sofas on the landings where it did work though. We liked that we had a balcony and a bath. The staff were friendly & helpful. The free breakfast included limitless coffee, the waiter was happy to swap the bimbo toast for a nice bread roll. The bus to the main bus station leaves from 2 bocks away.

Great Location, But Building Needs a Makeover
Pros: Within walking distance to El Zocalo, VIPS mall, and museums. A restaurant is located inside the hotel if you don't feel like going out to eat. Cons: The building needs to be renovated. The bathroom tub for our room on the 4th floor was clogged and the water took long to drain. The tub was rusted and needs to be replaced. The shower curtain was torn. The beds were very old.

They Lied!
While centrally located, generally, clean, and inexpensive, promotional materials lie about the services. There is no way this is a 4-star hotel (or even a one-star hotel). The bed was as hard as a rock; the only fairly reliable WIFI was next to the reception desk; "Cable TV" was 8 blurry channels (all in Spanish); there was no business center, laundry, or gym; while they changed the sheets daily, they didn't clean the bathroom for a week; we had to wait four days for a tub stopper; the restaurant food was awful; at about 4:30 in the morning on our first night, we thought the volcano was erupting and we had to evacuate when the boiler came on, etc. Enough said...

Worth the price.
Very close to the Centro/Zócalo a few blocks to be exact. First room was very hot I couldn't take how hot it was so I asked for another room with a window and it was no problem. Beds are not too comfy. Staff was okay could have been friendlier. When you get there make sure you have a copy of your purchase of the hotel room. They won't accept a confirmation number from your phone. They want a printout. Walls are thin so on one side of the room I could eat their snoring and the other them havin sex. Very unpleasant. Pretty noisy because they hold conferences there also. But again with this price i can't complain too much just accept the flaws.

A Low-Budget Gem of a Hotel
This hotel provides a beautiful and warm environment within walking distance of the fabulously beautiful and vibrant Zocalo ( City Center). The room is spacious and comfortable, even though it provides minimum amenities. The desk-clerks , if not the most sophisticated are warm and helpful. The free breakfast is not at all up to the mark---they won't even add milk to the coffee! All in all worth the money.

Bare essentials, spartan, but pleasant staff,
Comparable to the lowest US hotel chain in what you get. The neighborhood OK during the day but lonely at night, though common to most "near downtown" locations. The room was relatively newly updated but the bathroom was not, thus bordering in disrepair. The parking is almost a block away, but your car will be safe.

With this hotel you could really say you get what you pay for. Good location, hotel in need of some renovations. There are so many other hotel options in Puebla however many do not use booking services like hotels.com. Cannot say we had a bad experience there but hard beds, no fan and no screen on our window. The hotel was secure, but will stat elsewhere next time.

lovely hotel, good location
Good location with nearby eateries, pharmacies, etc. and 6 blocks from Zocalo. Very nice Mexican architecture with a little courtyard in back and skylight in dining room (serving complimentary continental breakfast plus menu and some meals for $). Nice rooms with clean comfortable beds, potable water provided, good TV reception, and full-length mirror. Dining room waiters: both males are nice and accommodating, female is unpleasant. Spotty wifi.

Bargain hotel beware
I probably shouldn't complain too much, it was a very cheap hotel after all, but my experience was; -A smelly, noisy room, with a few bugs, a shower that was barely a dribble (a cold dribble). Water from the sink faucet was at least hot and so I bathed from that. The bed was worn out and the left side of it sagged and tilted toward the floor. It was probably one of the most uncomfortable hotel beds I've ever slept in and I have a sore neck now. -The Wifi rarely worked (sometimes in the lobby, almost never in the room) -The hotel restaraunt was okay at best. It was pretty reasonably priced, but one day they served my food cold. When I complained, the waitress took my plate back in the kitchen and brought me the bill. -Service in the rest of the hotel was fair at best. When I checked in, the reception had some trouble finding my reservation, the over zealous bellman led me to the wrong room. The maids arguing with eachother everyday was loudly audible in my room as were the teenage girls in the room next door. At least it all quieted down at night. I started to search around for another hotel to stay after my first night, but none of the similarly priced hotels I found looked any better. So I guess there is some truth to the saying "you get what you pay for"

no wi-fi
The hotel is conveniently located. The employees at the reception are very nice. The service in the hotel restaurant is not the best. You can be there waiting for up to 15 minutes without getting any service. Although the rooms are kept clean they are not comfortable. They lack ventilation. It can be hot inside the rooms. The TV service is deplorable. Just a few channels and the imagen was not clear. With a little but of investment from the owners, it could become a wonderful nice hotel. I won't stay there again.

Good location
They say they have hot water 24 hours but they do not- the interior rooms without windows are quite stuffy and hot. I guess for the cost it was okay- I did not really expect much better. It was typical for the price we paid. Breakfast is dry toast, orange juice and coffee. Good service in the restaurant and at the front desk.

Overall I was satisfied
Friendly helpful staff. Room was big and bright (painted in a soft pink) and opened to a small balcony. The bed and pillows were a little hard but OK. Good stop for experienced budget travellers, good value. The breakfast is coffee juice and pre toasted bread with jam, other items are available for purchase but I did not try them, there are plenty of small eateries close by. About a 5 block walk to Zocalo and portales.

Great location and affordable.
Our family of 4 (2 parents & 2 adult children) spent 7 nights at Hotel San Angel. The two full-size double beds and the futon couch that opened to a bed worked well for us. The room opened onto the hotel dining room, and we feared it would be noisy. No problem there, though. Reservations and payment went through without a glitch, WiFi worked well, beds were comfy, and the proximity to the zocolo and historic center was ideal.

GOOD DEAL FOR THE PRICE
Not a bad deal for the price. The place was clean and the employees were helpful and friendly. It was good enough for me to stay two extra nights. Not the hotel for someone who wants to be extra close to the Zocalo, though.

Do not stay at Hotel San Angel
We booked three rooms for three nights. Everyday a tour bus full of kids on sports teams arrived The kids ran round yelling and shouting into the night. This is not a hotel for tourists. We only had hot water once in four days. Two of the three rooms smelled very badly of sewer gas. In one of the rooms the sewer backed up in the drain in the floor. One of our group changed to another hotel and another was able to change to a better room. Even the continental included breakfast was terrible. Cold coffee and packaged dry toast, and orange juice ran out by 8:30 AM. This is a group tour hotel., not a place for individual tourists. Do not stay at Hotel San Angel.
