Azul Beach

Azul Beach showing horse riding, land animals and a beach
This tranquil beach is a favourite for families, with calm waters and few crowds.

This peaceful, family-friendly beach on Puerto Rico’s northern coast offers excellent swimming, snorkeling and paddle boating. Managed by a family owned, luxury resort, the beach is secluded and beautiful.

Relax in the shade provided by palm trees, or work on your tan as you lie on the warm sand. The climate is perfect almost all year-round and Azul Beach is a great destination for families and anybody looking to escape the crowds of the beaches closer to San Juan.

Snorkel around the tropical coral reef just off shore to discover brightly colored fish, including bluestripe grunts and queen parrotfish. Or splash with the kids at Azul Beach’s roped off area, a great spot for safe swimming. Visitors should be aware that while conditions are generally calm, there are no lifeguards on duty at this beach.
Rent a paddleboard to cover more ground as you explore the offshore reefs. There is some great surf to be found in the region, and the point between Azul and La Pared is an excellent place to take your board. Paddleboards and surfboards can both be rented from shops in Luquillo. If you don't know how to surf you can learn at a surf school.

Accommodation is plentiful around this heavily touristed area. There are also a number of holiday condos and more modest hotel rooms in Luquillo.

Azul Beach is located on the northern coast of Puerto Rico 31 miles (50 kilometres) east of San Juan. Visitors arriving by car can reach the beach in approximately 40 minutes. There is ample free parking along the road by the beach, or those wanting more security can park in the enclosed Azul Beach Hotel parking lot for a fee. The beach is accessible daily and there is no fee.
