it's an old, old building that has been changed and upgraded many times over the years. It is historic, close to the cathedral.
Our room was clean and well kept, but some public areas were slightly tired (not surprising given its age). The pub itself was very good.
We didn't eat this time but our experience of Greene King pubs means the food would be good value and well presented. We will stay again.
There were signs that some rooms or areas are already being refurbished, which is probably an ongoing project for such an old building.
Car parking: the St Martins Car Park (8 mins walk) has EV rapid and fast charge points, and costs £4 per 24 hours. Another closer council car park costs £6. An adjacent NCP car park probably costs more but is close by.
