This hotel is the ideal base for exploring this fascinating city. A few minutes' walk from the Nevskiy Prospekt metro station, it is equally so from the Hermitage and Church Of The Saviour on Spilled Blood, and there are regular buses to other parts of the city from Nevskiy Prospekt, the city's main thoroughfare (the 27 will take you to the Mariinsky Theatre - I took it to get to the ballet there: you must go to the ballet when in Russia).
The reception staff at the hotel were very friendly and helpful at check-in: the first thing I noticed about the room was how warm it was, but then the outside temperature had been below zero: the room itself was very comfortable though, and kept spotlessly clean by the staff - a pleasure to return to after a long day and a nightcap (there is a 24hour 'Real' supermarket as you turn left out of the hotel gates, two or three minutes' walk. There were one or two occasions where my keycard needed to be reprogrammed, but this was not an issue for the staff.
Plenty of choice at breakfast (continental), but for me, porridge was the winner, good fuel for lots of walking in the cold weather. The staff were very efficient in keeping the food replenished.
Once again, an excellent location in the heart of St. Petersburg.
