We are sorry that the area our hostel is located in left a bad impression: Shinsekai is a particularly unique area in Osaka, linked with the economic development and collapse of Osaka City pre and post-war. We appreciate that the area is a little grungier and dirtier than the rest of Osaka, but chose this area with the desire to provide people with an 'authentic' or 'real' experience of the city, and convey what this area has to offer. We regret that you felt unsafe in our neighbourhood. Shinsekai does have a reputation amongst a lot of people in Osaka as 'dangerous', but this is mostly due to historical reputation: the area is now home to a great number of hostels like ours, and has now become a tourist attraction for both foreigners and Japanese, and the rate of violent crime remains astronomically low by global standards. That being said, we cannot excuse the fact that you felt unsafe, and for that we deeply apologise. To address this, we plan on providing more information about the area on our website, in order to better inform people who plan to stay at our hostel and prevent anyone from having a bad experience in the future due to the location.
