It's important for prospective guests to understand that this hotel is deep inside a gated development. The development itself is nice--middle- to upper-middle class by American standards--but it is strictly a bedroom community. There are no stores or other commercial establishments. Since it's in a private community, there are no taxis to hail (although the hotel was very good about getting me rides when I needed them). So long as you understand these limitations, the Eco Suites Uxlabil is a perfectly fine mid-grade hotel. It would be especially good for people who are visiting other people in the Oakland development or who have their own transportation.
The room was clean and spacious, though the furniture was a strange hodgepodge and the bathroom fixtures were pretty rustic. Lots of hot water in the shower, no hot water in the sink. There's no air conditioning, but I was very comfortable during my mid-February stay. WiFi was good and there was a kitchenette where, if I'd stayed longer, I could have fixed my own meals. The staff is very accommodating at arranging transportation, giving advice, and having coffee and a breakfast snack ready and waiting every morning.
So long as you're not expecting an urban-commercial environment or don't mind getting a taxi to one, you won't be disappointed. The hotel may also appeal to security-conscious travelers precisely for this reason.
