We were visiting Jane Austen House so this was very convenient for us to walk the countryside.

Good Food & Location, could do with a good clean
The hotel is old and a little tired, the room we stayed in was not so clean with mould and grime around the window, dust around the skirting boards and the carpet could do with a good clean. As it was winter and the room is single glazed, the heating could not cope and the room was extremely cold, luckily their was a fan heater available to bring up the temperature. Their isn’t a lift and the corridors are narrow, not so easy with luggage, especially if your room is on the top floor. On a positive note, the location is good with free parking, the food in the restaurant is a good standard, service is okay, but often their is no one to be seen and you have to seek them out.

Booked the night here as it was cheaper than using a Taxi for travel to and from Odiham. It is a really nice hotel, has all the facilities you would expect. Pretty much like a Premier inn really. I would stay here again.

Great Stay at the Swan
The room I stayed in was great. King Size bed, very clean and hand soap, shampoo very nice. Very comfortable stay.

Confused staff and cold rooms
Check in was fine. Room was cold, radiators were not on, after going to reception and being told the heating would come on shortly twice, I was given a fan heater, which proceeded to trip the lights. Apparently the heated towel rails dont work as they are waiting to be replaced. Were moved to abother room - this room was fine, but still inconsistencies with the heating, luckily we still had the fan heater. In the pub restaurant, staff seemed a bit confused at times, staff did not know what ales they had or the difference between ale and lager. We were also told we could eat and were seated on sunday, only to be then told kitchen is closed to prep for sunday lunch. Just seems some more staff training may be needed. Food that we did have there over the weekend was good however.

We stayed for one night, unfortunately the staff member who checked us in was very unhelpful. Bed very hard, thin walls, cracks in ceiling and wall. We also had water marks as though there was a water leak in the wall.

Great hotel in Alton
The Swan was the perfect place to stay in Alton. Great location, very friendly staff, and comfortable and clean room. I will definitely stay here again on my next visit.

Been there before and know Alton. Great place to stay. Pub downstairs. Pub is not too big to be too noisy. Breakfast is a amazing. Had a large single room. Will stay there again. Only one little thing: wish there would have been a shower curtain to prevent water on bathroom floor.

Fine stay
Comfortable, good food and service. No problems. Clean. Friendly, efficient manageress. No view from window,,(inner alcove) but it was November!

Could be better organised
Quirky old building ideally placed for both Alton and the surrounding area. Stayed a few times and it is getting increasing shambolic. At check-in they didn't know whether I'd paid or not and no ability to print an invoice. Room smelt musty. Didn't have all the ingredients for a full english the first morning. No longer trusted to serve yourself coffee/tea at breakfast meaning you need to wait for overworked staff to fetch the jug thus increasing their workload.

Weekend away
We stayed in the Swan at Alton when attending a family gathering. The hotel was comfortable and the service was excellent with a good breakfast. Very centrally located in the middle of delightful town which is Jane Austin’s home town.

Very Helpful
Its about the third time we stayed here. Reception is always professional and helpful and the room is always serviced by lovely staff. The hotel is on high street and handy to everything

Dated hotel in need of refurbishment. No issues with staff who were very pleasant but we regretted booking the hotel within 10 minutes of getting there

Only negative aspect was the room facing the High street was some excessive/loud vehicle exhaust noise one night. Better double glazing would help. Room was clean & tidy with excellent bath and shower. Very comfortable bed and handy room fan, which was also very quiet as was needed due to heat and limited opening of windows. Would definitely recommend and stay there again.

Staff were lovely and welcoming and I cannot fault the interactions I had with them. However the room I stayed in was not clean- marks on the bed sheets, bed not made properly, toothpaste marks in the bathroom and black marks over the towels. The tea and coffee selection provided was a nice touch but two packets of coffee had been opened and put back in the pot. I went to tell the staff and asked for my room to be cleaned and bedding changed, to which they were very apologetic and assured me this would be sorted while I was out. Unfortunately only the duvet sheet was changed, though I asked for clean bedding and towels. It was dissapointing having asked politely for these things to be the basic standard anyone would expect when staying at any location.

Staff were very friendly and repeatedly checked to make sure everything was ok. It may not be the most modern hotel but it’s welcoming and safe. We ate in the restaurant a few times and the food was very good and the staff were very attentive, especially Patrick who went above and beyond.

Great sleep!
Very nice place, quiet rooms despite being above bar and on the high street. Slept like a baby! My window had a crack in it and was unable to be closed which was the only down side but other than that it was a good, Comfortable stay
