This is a very comfortable motel style hotel with spacious, clean, modern rooms and a limited breakfast included in the room price. It is outside Franz Josef itself so as there is no restaurant a drive into the resort town itself is required for dining. Some rooms have great views of the mountains (sadly ours wasn’t one of them!)

Yes, I would return!! You will need a car as a few minutes outside of town but worth the drive. In my case, enjoy the two staff members (German) as they provide superior customer service. They do provide a decent breakfast of boiled eggs, cheese, meat, cereal, fruit, yogurt and coffee!!! Found the rooms large for the area, nice bathroom, and great bed. I had a great stay

A very quiet and comfortable place to stay. The room was large, with comfortable bed and plenty of sitting options. Nice view from the window and glass patio style doors. The bathroom was clean and properly stocked with toiletries. Breakfast was adequate. Just one request: if they could start the breakfast earlier than 8AM.

Up market hotel on outskirts of town set in its own grounds. Rooms spacious and clean. Limited staff mean that front desk only open for a limited time. Breakfast options ok but not extensive.

Room is spacious and new. The only problem is that with large windows on two sides, it almost like a fish bowl with no privacy. breakfast is great but only for 1 hour.

The staff was super nice and the breakfast was good. The room is very basic. We were told that only 4 rooms have AC. Our room did not have AC. It was hot and had mosquitoes bothering us all night. If you opened the window, more mosquitoes would come in since they have no screens. They had a small table fan in the room but we started sneezing after turning it on. We got very little sleep and checked out after one night.

Disappointing. The value was lacking. No A/C, which is fine in a cool climate, but no windows, or screen door to provide ventilation. The "jetted tub" was pointless, as if from the 90's. There was no visible staff, aside from the ad who checked me in, and the others providing the continental breakfast. I could smell the sewage in the bathroom. The TV was programmed to be quiet. The wifi was deplorable. At least the king twin conversion was comfortable. The only saving grace. I would never stay here again.

A mixed bag

A mixed bag! The good - charming and helpful manager, large room, modern fit out. The bad - no ventilation so room was stuffy, some rooms have nice views towards the hills but ours looked over the car park with no privacy, wifi very slow and TV initially not working, some km from town and on-site restaurant very limited. Not a cheap stay and to us, not worth the price

Double check the tv remote is working for all rooms before guests arrive , but no problem! We turned it on at the tv instead. Wasn’t a big deal but will help with convenience for future guests :)

At first l thought this going to be bad , but the check in was flawless. The room was extremely nice. Sitting outside watching the sunset and clouds flowing through the mountains was so refreshing. The stars were incredible. Finally the breakfast granola choices were excellent. Ate twice. 5star

Property was located a few kilometers north of town. Lovely view out the back of the complex over a green pasture and pond. Room was spacious with Scandinavian style architecture and furniture. Center of the complex held the reception desk and breakfast buffet tables. You can sit outside on the deck

This hotel is a lot further out from town than I expected and it is not walkable to the town of Frans Josef. BUT, the view is spectacular and the rooms were great. Would definitely recommend someone staying at the hotel as long as they had a vehicle which I did not due to me arriving with a tour group.

This was probably our favorite place to stay in New Zealand. It's out of town so you definitely need a car, but the rooms are HUGE and modern and comfortable and immaculate. Unbelievably quiet at night. Breakfast was fantastic, fresh and delicious with a nice variety. The person who managed check-in was friendly and helpful. Would stay here again in a heartbeat.

The place was beautiful. Lived up to expectations. I did check in late, and they had taped an envelope with my name to the reception door. Inside the envelope was a key and welcome letter. The letter was informative, but had no obvious notation of my room number. I was perplexed, and unsure of what to do. Thinking it may have been an oversight, I checked a couple of obviously unoccupied rooms, trying my key. This did not work. Upon re-examining the letter, I noticed two small hash marks at the top of the page in the center. There was no other information. Marks were small, but I read them as 11. I checked around and found a room 11, and this indeed was my room. It would have been helpful if they had just written the word ROOM before the hash marks as to me, the hash marks were not obvious as a room number.

Beautiful location and condition

Great accommodation. Looked very new and clean. Located a couple of kms out of town so very quiet and peaceful. Included continental breakfast. Overall rate highly. Suggestion to have background music in restaurant area to give it some atmosphere.
