On the third night I was out on the hotel's balcony, looking into the mountains. Eventually I got up from a chair an leaned on the wooden railing of the balcony. Almost immediately the railing gave way and I fell down about nine feet with it over a sharp concrete ledge onto the concrete walkway. After laying there helpless in excruciating chest pain I could not find my cell phone to call for help. After over one hour later the only other hotel guest came home and tried to help me up. My hip and chest were hurting terribly so we decided he would drive me to the ER in the next town, Silva, NC. There they found three broken ribs and severely bruised hip. After finally getting home a week later I retained an attorney to sue for damages and pain and suffering. It took almost a year for my ribs to heal and my hip was now found to be one inch out of alignment, making it painful and hard for me to walk. This took again several months of physical therapy to correct. By the way, the aforementioned balcony railing consisted of old rotten wood, held together only by the paint on it. Why did I wait three years to inform you? Since it was under litigation I was not allowed to talk about the case. Now I have just been informed by my attorney that the owners of Jarrett House hotel have filed for bankruptcy some time ago and never even carried liability insurance. I sincerely hope that you take this hotel off of your booking list. Please contact me if you need further information.

Vi blev først indlogeret på et værelse uden vindue og med en seng, der knirkede ved bare den mindste bevægelse. Efter lidt snak med personalet fik vi dog en andet værelse med vindue, hvilket var et fint værelse. Personalet var meget søde og imødekommende.

Im sorry there was an issue with the bed. We do have antique furniture in our rooms so sometimes that sound comes with age. I hope you come and stay again.

Not what it used to be, but will it be again?
We have stayed at the Jarrett House many times in the past and have had very good experiences. However, this time was very disappointing. We understand the hotel is under new ownership, so I want to give them a bit of grace. I suspect the previous owner had let the place run down, and maybe disposed of a lot of furnishings. It's probably a very expensive property, so money may not be there yet to properly fix and furnish -- yet. The room we had was bare-bones, the bathroom was utilitarian, and the overall condition is in desperate need of upgrade. The place was reasonably clean, just old and barren. The nice, homey, front dining room has been changed to into a sitting parlor (unfortunate). The dining room was moved to the windowless back room (bad move) with "church retreat camp" decor (awful). Breakfast seems to have come from cans. Honestly, this place could be a real gem again if it were closed for a year and properly renovated with a historic preservationist architect in charge -- with a lot of money. So, I want to give the new owners a bit of grace and chance to get things together. But, one needs business to raise money to put back into the business. I wish them the best of luck, but it's going to need a lot of intentional effort and polish to step back up to the heritage and expectations folks have had of the Jarrett House. The location is great!

Thank you for your feed back. When we purchased the Jarrett House a lot had been changed/renovated from the original way by the owners who had it before us. We are working very hard to try and restore the ORIGINAL Jarrett House. As this is a struggle due to age and not wanting to take the old away, we do hope you give us another chance. It will probably take some time to get everything back right and in its original form, sorry for any inconvenience this problem may have caused you.

There was no hot water to shower!! I was told the bed would be a queen and it was a full.

im sorry you may have experienced this problem, although we have checked every room very well to ensure there is hot water. as the hotel itself is very old it does take some time for our water to warm.

Needs to be updated.
Needs to be updated. Carpet was dirty with stains. Wife and I slept in clothes. Did not want anything to touch us. Beakfast was cold. People were nice.

It is an old hotel with some charm. But it is clearly in some distress. It just costs a lot to maintain such a property. Some examples, include routine maintenance problems (light bulbs burned out, smoke detector beeping), infrastructure challenges (heats with portable heaters in the room), old or cheap mattresses, etc. NIce people that are trying, but I am fearful for its longevity.

Essentially comfortable room, historical hotel.
This hotel is 129 years old, so you can't expect much. The bed was comfortable, the room was dark enough for me to sleep in. If anyone stays in an adjacent room, you will be able to hear everything they say (or do.) It's right on mainstreet in Dillsboro, great location to enjoy the town.

I apologize about the issues you encountered. We do not have televisions in the room to due it being a historical hotel. we try and keep everything as old as possible. they didn't have television is the 1800's so we are trying not to put them in the rooms. but we do provide a television down stairs in our sitting lobby that all guest are welcome to at any time. sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused you.

Disappointing
I reserved one of their courtyard rooms because it was ground level and I knew I wouldn't have to climb stairs to get to it. I have severe back problems and a rod in my back that prevents me from being able to climb stairs. So after I checked-in, the front-desk clerk led me to my room and began climbing a flight of stairs. I stopped her immediately, explaining my condition and the reservation I had made. She turned around and stated she would check if she had another room. A few minutes later she said a courtyard room was available and handed me a key. Before I carried my luggage to the room, I walked over to check it out and when I opened the door, heat from the room, somewhere around 85 degrees hit me in the face. And it was not a cold day, it was about 80 degrees outside. I looked at the beds and they were unmade, the room was dirty and had not been cleaned. I have never been sent to an unclean room before. I walked back to the front-desk, explained the situation and asked to be refunded my money. The attendant was very apologetic and kind and gave me a receipt that was to credit my account; that was 3 days ago and the credit has yet to show up on my debit card. I am cautiously optimistic that it still will. If not, I will be filing a claim.

Nasty dirty!
Even tho this is a house from the 1800s there is no excuse for it not to be clean! Carpet was filthy, shower curtain needed replaced, blinds were dusty and I could go on and on. We didn't even attempt to eat there!! Every place around was booked because of the eclipse so we had no other choice but to stay. Eclipse was amazing but this place was disgusting!!

The main building is over 100 years old and under renovation. I was put in an "outside" room which is a separate building. My room had 2 queens and enough additional space to host a dinner party for 20. The room was recently renovated. Clean, with nice fixtures. Legacy fixtures (AC unit and heater) were in odd locations but clean and functional. The painters did excellent work but the drywall crew needs training. The hotel is right on the "main drag" through Dillsboro and my room was 10' from the road. Traffic was essentially non-exisitent from about 9:00 PM to 7:00 AM so the location was not a problem

Total disappointment
It might have been great, but I booked this reservation online for the same day, and one hour into our drive from Atlanta, I found out we didn't have a reservation even though I received a confirmation immediately after I booked it. I booked it through Hotel.com and they were unable to help me find another room, and we had to turn around and go home. I will never use this service again!

Historic yes-stay no!
We have been wanting to stay here for more than 30 years. So the opportunity (& finances) fianally made it possible & we were so excited. The check in staff was friendly & helpful that's about all the good I can say about the hotel side. Thought we were getting a queen room - they don't have any. We managed in a full bed. picked up dead bees on the floor. Cold/Hot spickets were backwards in shower. At breakfast there wasn't a soul. We even looked & yelled for help & coulden't find anyone to get creamer. (Substandard anyway for this type of place). Then as we go to check out we had to yell to wake up the kid sleeping on the couch! Not impressed with hotel. The restaurant was OK. Some food was a bit salty for my taste but it they were friendly & fast. And there was plenty!

We are extremely sorry for the terrible experience. At the Jarrett House, we do not take situations like these lightly. It can be assured that every measurable action is being taken to fix these problems, including a recent exterminator visiting the grounds. We do not condone our staff to behave like that and the situation has been brought forth. The unfortunate reason for the small breakfast is due to our kitchen being spred thin between two restaurants with less than enough staff. However, in the future we are looking to improve our breakfast to Hot options as well. We always take feedback on the restaurant and food served to heart as we are always looking to get better in that aspect. Customer service and guest relations are huge to us here at the Jarrett House and we cannot apologize enough. We believe that your feedback will help us in the long run.

OMG!!
Front desk does not have a clue how to look for your reservations on computer. They still cannot tell me if my card to hold the room will be charged or not even though I went ahead and paid them for the room. Was not going to give me a receipt until i asked for it. Not at all friendly or helpful. The elderly lady was sweet but does not know anything about the computer. The rooms were run down and beds were horrible. No tv in rooms.maybe we just got the worst room since we booked from hotels.com instead of directly from hotel. I would not ever stay here again but they probably won't be in business much longer if they don't get better help. We were just on a quick getaway to the mountains and thought a bed and breakfast would be fun!! Wrong!! Breakfast was yogurt and donuts!!

Teresa, We are always looking for ways to improve our hotel and so we greatly apprecitate the feedback. First and foremost, we apologize for such confusion at the front desk. We have new employees currently at the front desk that are being trained the right way so something like this does not keep occuring. A receipt is always in order for the hotel and also the customer, that issue is also being taken care of, as well as the way all guests are treated with respect. Reservations are supposed to be charged the day before the guest checks in, that is why we need the credit card information, however, the way your payment was handled was unnacceptable. We are also still in the process of renovating room, however the reason there no amenities like Tv's in the room is because of the type of B & B we are. Classic 1800's style feeling is what we offer and promote, we apologize for the confusion there. Our small continental breakfast also can be altered to specific guests likings, however this information may have not been shared with you. We strive to grow from this feedback, our deepest apologies again.

Great Train Escape
Stayed here many years ago, was wonderful. This trip under new owners. Waited 1 hour for dinner, over cooked on arrival. 2nd afternoon, we were there when we returned to hotel, sign on door: due to unforeseen circumstances hotel would be closed until Wed. This was Sunday. Left a phone number for emergencies. No breakfast as it is part of room fee. Never had this to happen before. Our room off courtyard so we had access.

Pam, We apologize deeply for the service of our restaurant, that is not the way we want our customers to feel. As far as the issue with the hotel not being open, we now have Watchmen Staff to be on the grounds 24/7for any guests at anytime. A small continental breakfast is always included every morning, however, we are striving to do a better job of describing the reservation and what it entails. The Jarrett House always appreciate feedback of areas we can improve in or change. Again, our deepest apologies for your experience.

completely overpriced for a room with no amenities
This was one of the worst rooms we have ever stayed at. In general we stay at 2-3 star hotels. Just need a decent comfortable room. Don't need or expect anything fancy. There were absolutely no amenities with this room. NONE! not a TV, fridge, coffee maker, alarm clock or phone. There is no way to control the temperature other than the ceiling fan . There was a window air conditioner, but it was sitting in the floor of the closet. The room had 2 full size beds that were not only extremely uncomfortable, the mattress was only covered with a worn thin sheet. There was no mattress pad or any mattress protector. That screams unsanitary to me. No nightstand next to either bed. People need places to put their stuff when they are in bed. The carpet was stained & dirty. NO curtains on windows, only blinds that let all the light in so no sleeping in. Bathroom had no window covering at all, Major privacy issue for me. sink was rust stain and bathroom in general was not one that you really wanted to use. We had no towels in our room, had to go ask for some. Also they don't even have a hairdryer for you to use. The "big country breakfast" that is on their website for all hotel guests hasn't been done in 3 yrs according to the person at the desk. Only thing was some rolls, bananas and juice and coffee. We have never stayed at such a bare bones hotel and this was almost twice the price of what we usually pay at other places. They definitely aren't thinking of the comfort of their guests.

New meaning to historical!
The hotel staff was great! Unfortunately that didn't transfer over to the room! Old, dirty and poorly maintained! The cheap linoleum tiles in the bathroom were not installed properly, big gaps that allowed you to see the plywood underneath. Had an old window unit A.C. that was rather loud. The carpet was low end with holes in it. I was informed at check in that the hotel was booked solid, but are room had a T.V., was an old tube T.V. The clerk said that not all of the rooms have televisions. No phone either. Supposed to have 2 queen sized bed, had 1 queen and 1 full! The beds were quite firm. Stay away from this place!

I'm glad I stayed there, as it is a historic house, but I was somewhat saddened by the decline of the house. It was fine, but not the experience I had hoped it would be.

I really just wanted to compliment the restaurant, the food was great. I ate at Coach's twice and both meals we're delicious I would return mainly for the food. Rooms were ok, old, but the staff was friendly and I enjoyed my stay. I would recommend it if you want that 1980s feel

If you're looking for an old time feel this is the hotel for you. My wife and I are into history and this hotel is full of it. The staff was friendly and very accommodating, the area is quiet and quaint. Our only regret was having to leave to come back to work. I would recommend this hotel to my friends and family who really appreciate the history of an area like dillsboro.

Great views, friendly staff
My only issue was that I couldn't stay longer. Staff was friendly and accommodating, only stayed for one night and booked late, no issues with check in. Historic hotel and area, was very pleased with the room. Coach's restaurant served me an amazing meal, had a great night downtown taking in the scenery. If you have a thirst for history this area is a great stop. I look forward to coming here with my family for the summer and take in the summer sights. The views were incredible, will happily stay at the Jarrett house in the future. I will gladly recommend this hotel to my friends and family to stay at in the future. Thank you Jarrett house!!!!!!!!!

Very Excited
I had a wonderful stay there. I was excited to go to Jarrett House to stay. Turned out the hotel was closed for New Year, but they made special effort to make sure I had a room. We were the only people staying there. I am excited to go back and see the rest of the Jarrett House when it is actually open. The restaurant and bar were only open until 9:00 PM, but It is a small town that rolls up the streets at night. I loved it.

Quiet, comfortable, quaint little town.
Always enjoy staying at this old and charming Inn.

Overall very nice. However, the breakfast left much to be desired.

The hotel is about 15 miles from Harrah'so Casino not 7 like hotels.com advertises. There is not much around hotel.

Quick night
Arranged for late check in. Staff friendly. Room was not well cleaned. Bed comfortable.

Hope they get their act together
Stay was nice. Room was in need of refreshing. Some rooms were furnished with antiques. I think ours was furnished with leftover junk.

Disappointed
Pretty disappointing, old time quaint house type hotel but almost no amenities. No TV, frig, view. Shower was just an old bathtub with a curtain around it, didn't even have a soap dish so you pretty much had to hold the soap/shampoo during shower. The room door wouldn't even close unless you engaged the lock which was holding it in place. Sat on the faux brass bed and one of the brass dowels fell to the floor, never mind that no one made up the bed for my 2nd night. Had a nice free breakfast otherwise meh

We were dissapointed
We had reserved a queen sized bed in an historic old hotel but somehow ended up shoved into some annex out back where we had to walk down a steep parking lot to the hotel. I suspect it was their handicapped access room which we didn't want or need. If you've never stayed in one, it is an awkward experience. Very outdated 80's yard sale decor. Huge comfy king bed, nice tv, free wi-fi, high pressure shower. no coffee pot or coffee access till 8 am, no ice, toilet was so old it must have been from the 60's. The deck would be nice if it was cleaned so you could use it. We fell like we missed out on our old hotel experience that we paid $120 for and got time warped to the 80's. This is the second time we have booked a hotel online and ended up in a handicapped room :-(
Hello Dawn, We apologize that you felt you had such a poor experience. We actually offer coffee in the lobby 24 hours a day and you should have been notified that ice was available upon request. Our Inn is 132 years old and we are actually in the process of starting all around upgrades throughout the entire Inn. Again, we do apologize but hope that you will try us again once our upgrades are completed. Generally speaking.... We happily move guests to a different room upon request and would have been more than willing to oblige you as well.

Not So Much
We were told ahead of time that there's no TV, but there's also no elevator, water pressure, decent maid service, or a restaurant that is ever open at a convenient time. Rooms were not clean. Common areas of the hotel (like the balcony) never got cleaned. Window unit AC wasn't quite powerful enough. Shower *really* sucked with hot-cold fluctuation and trickling pressure. Antiques in room were very nice.

Our stay was very short as we got in late and left early. Not much activity at the place but it is located in a very small mountain town. Charming

Dillsboro - Fall 2015
This hotel is in disrepair and is in need of maintenance and/or renovation. Basics, like just being able to lock the bathroom door and provide a well maintained appearance generally appear to be overlooked by the owners/mgmt. The restaurants, however are in good condition and seem to do a good business. I would not stay there again.

Quaint Hotel. Needs massive update!
The staff was wonderful. While the my room was ok, the bathroom was molded from the ceiling to floor. The toilet worked but was an afterthought, extremely cramped. The Coach's bar and restaurant was a great recent upgrade. Obviously, that is where they make some money. But, the hotel itself is in desperate need of massive renovation. The quaintness of the oldest hotel in the area has definitely worn off. The lack of attention to the hotel rooms and bathrooms shows maybe it is time for the current owner to retire and let someone else handle the upgrade/renovation/complete overhaul..

A step back in time.
Loved the old comfort feel of the hotel. Very comfortable and the breakfast was fabulous. Staff were very accommodating. We live two hours from there and will definitely be staying there often.

Historic hotel
Country breakfast included - good but not great. A great 1 night stay; just so you have experienced Jarrett House. Rooms, hallways, breakfast area are in desperate need of repair and upgrade.
