“Clean and professional”

The location isn't fantastic, but the staff is really nice and super accomodating and the room is quite comfortable. This is a great hotel for the price.

“New City Hotel”

The hotel was perfect for me and my son. It was clean, everything worked (BBC World on TV was mind numbingly boring but late night Korean TV was hilarious) - just beware of fiddling with the buttons on the loo until you understand what they do! The hotel staff were great - OK, there was a language difficulty but that's our fault for not speaking Japanese. They did a sterling job. They do have some PC's in the lobby that give you decent net access for 100 Yen for 10 mins - BUT they also have free wireless access. One tip... sleep with the window open - the rooms are a little airless. And another - check out Yoyogi Park in a Sunday. Lastly..Check out Project Gotham Racing on XBox360 - if you look carefully, you will see the New City Hotel - and Shinjuku Station complete with the glass eye light sculpture!!

“Great Trip”

Nice hotel, right next to Shinjuku Koen, and a short walk or shuttle ride to the train station that gets you all over Tokyo. Many nice restaurants down the street to choose from for a night in. My only complain was the size of the bathroom/shower, but did not detract from the overall experience.

“"Fantastic location, quiet room: Loved staying here!!"”

Most staff speak enough English for communication. Very clean and quiet room, though non-smoking smelled slightly of cigarette smoke. Top location in a fantastic area of Tokyo. Shinjuku station is the busiest in Japan, therefore you can catch a train to just about anywhere in Japan. Free shuttle bus runs to and from station from 7am to midday and 4pm to 9.30pm every 15 mins. If catching the train to Shinjuku from airport make sure you go to the West exit to catch the bus. Station is huge but signed pretty well. Ask for help or better still take a compass with you, it is the best tip I could give. I wouldn't eat breakfast there again as it is very Japanese and I personally prefer something more Western. Starbucks are everywhere in Tokyo as well as Maccas & KFC. The Dubliners Irish Pubs serve the best Pizza. I loved staying at the New City Hotel and would recommend it highly as it is at a very reasonable price on Expedia. When I wanted to extend our stay from one week to two weeks, the hotel staff advised me to go online to book as it would be cheaper, so I did use the hotel computer in the lobby to do so. There is a little convenience store just up the street and a lovely park across the road. You can walk up to the station where the shops start. Draw out money on your VISA at the Post Office, make sure you have a PIN on your card!! Taxis are everywhere just say "Shinjuku New City Hotel" and if they don't know where that is say "Shinjuku Chuo Park West". Learn a few phrases.

“quiet buisness space”

upon out arrival, we were offered cool wash cloths and a warm greeting. the staff was very helpful and the shuttle convenient. the rooms cleaned daily (even if it was not requested) and were spacious considering the area. when i return, i will stay there again. i stayed with a friend in a double room and we had enough space to relax. very pleasant experience!

“An Excellent Bargain in Shinjuku”

Upon booking I was half worried that the hotel room would be too small, or that the location/neighborhood would be unsavory (Shinjuku has that reputation at times). But because of the price I just had to go ahead with it, and I was very pleased. The hotel itself is very nice, and the staff is friendly and understands English, which is a major plus if your Japanese is limited. My boyfriend and I booked a semi-double room. We're both taller than average mind you, (he's 6'2", I'm 5'10"), but it was a perfect fit and we were both comfortable. The pillows did have some kind of grain or rocks on one side, so you might want to bring your own pillow if that rubs you the wrong way, but the two of us were fine. The room was well lit, had a large window that opened outwards, and the view of the park across the street and the Shinjuku skyline (especially at night) was to die for. The restaurant downstairs (Mermaid Cafe) is a great place to grab breakfast, but be aware there are plenty of other places in the area (i.e. Denny's, and some restaurants up and down the block, especially closer to Shinjuku Station) that are a little cheaper. Speaking of Shinjuku Station, they have a shuttle back and forth to the station, which was convenient but only saved about a five minute walk... Overall, I strongly recommend the New City. It's good for travelers of all kinds, but better if you're adventurous and willing to mingle with locals/ see the city outside of the tourist traps.

“Very Satisfied”

It's really convenient, with the shuttle bus to and from Shinjuku station. But I hope there're more round during day time. Shower are great! I love that water run fast. Definitely want to stay here again when going to Tokyo.

“Great location at a good price”

The New City is in a great location, about fifteen minutes walk from Shinjuku station. The shuttle bus to and from the station runs every twenty minutes in the morning and late afternoon/evening. The staff are friendly and speak English. I found the room small but comfortable - it's not like you're going to spend much time there anyway - you're in Tokyo for goodness' sake! There's a great convenience store about fifty yards along the road (exit the hotel and go right) if you get hungry or thirsty. The hotel has vending machines on all the floors. There's cheap (100 yen for 10 minutes) internet access in the lobby. I found it a great base while I was in Tokyo - other travellers mentioned homeless people beside the nearby park. I can only say, "so what?". It's not like they bother anyone at all. Give it a go folks, good place!
