Promises, Promises
I knew I had a problem when there was no parking when I arrived. Evidently, management does not check the plate numbers, so local F&B establishments take advantage; hence no parking in the PM despite 40% occupancy. Chose the hotel for "ample parking" despite its location, but there is parking available only in the mornings and evenings, so not easy to use the car to go out for lunch or shopping. Must stay out until the evening. Then, no internet on my PC in the room on 4 routers. Managed a connection with no bars (just the dot) to send off a couple of lengthy emails at one spot in the lobby. No images. Cell phone got a "dot only" connection in the room, 1 bar on the cell. Used the cell. Some other guests were using portable routers. Young staff was friendly but generally not knowledgeable beyond key tourist spots and therefore not helpful. Took a while to find a cafe with free wifi as most are closed during RMCO. Lots of promises, no action. At checkout: "Internet is working fine. No one is having any problems." Not! Several fruit flies in the room. At least a Mozzy, too, as woke up with three hives. Another guest was complaining of a dysfunctional toilet, though mine was fine. Such a shame - the physical plant is rustic but charming. Will not be returning any time soon.

From the cheerful welcome with a towel to wash your hands and a nice smooth lemongrass drink, to the amazing employees, we didn’t want to leave. Reveena, one of the front desk clerks, is the most delightful young lady and truly is an asset to the hotel. We had a complication with losing a phone and she worked hard to help us get it back, even stayed past her duty time. We are forever grateful to her. Our King suite was absolutely breathtaking and we couldn’t get enough of the friendly cats that are part of the hotel staff. ❤️

Beautiful Heritage hotel. Comfortable room. Well kept. Lovely front desk staff. Very Helpful and always smiling! Lots of good food options within a few minutes walk. Easy to walk to all the sights. Bathroom a bit dated. The pool should not be advertised as such. You can really only dip your feet.

Walking distance to shops and restaurants. Easy access to bus. Be aware some bus drivers don't stop for whatever reason. I have 4 buses passed me and other tourists. I mean they act like they don't see you standing there with your hand waving them down. It is a problem for the foreign people who lives there as well but they say they report but nothing was done.

Regular rooms are rather small and dark and face a wall, though they have nice furnishings. As do all the public areas. The breakfast hot offerings were served tepid because the plates had been arranged in advance. Solution is to order the muesli. The pool was a delightful bonus for chilling after a long hot day. The staff were gracious and helpful. Our sink and shower did not drain very well. Nor did the sink in the room of a friend. We were moved one night to one of the rooms on the street side because of the drainage problems which had lots of light and room, and was absolutely lovely but would surely have cost twice the price had we had to pay for it. The hotel is a nice quiet location with easy access to nearby restaurants. Another bonus was the roof deck with a lovely view over the city.

Extraordinary Stay here!!
Rooms are clean and cosy with antique-styled renovation. What's more important is the hotel staff are super firendly. Ryan-the one who works at the front desk is super warm and professional.

The common places of the hotel is nicely renovated but the room is poorly maintained. The air con of the first room given is not working well. We changed to a second room which is better but the freight is not working.

The rooms are clean and comfortable but it needs refreshing. The staff are really nice, and the common areas are very interesting but also quite strangely put together. I'd stay here again though, it is good value and the location is great.

Beautiful hotel and friendly staffs
This was my second time staying at this hotel. This time I brought my mom for a family vacation. Our stay was wonderful. The morning breakfast was excellent. I had nasi lemak. The sambal was made in-house and it was absoutely delicious. This colonial building is beautifully decorated. The location is excellent as it is within walking distance to the designated UNESCO area.

It"s a double storey unit with all 3 beds upstairs. It would be nice to have the TV and the amenities on the top level as the toilets and water points are there.

Good for the Price
The neighborhood looked pretty run down initially, but the hotel was within walking distance to China Town and Little India. Since it was a Sunday, there was minimal activity in this area. The staff were friendly and accommodating. They even have their own list of top sights to see and were able to arrange a driver for a private tour soon after arrival. The breakfast was simple, made to order, but pretty good.

Pleasant stay for family of 4

Family of 4 staying in a room. Clean bed with nostalgia and great restoration of colonial building. Great place for photos shooting. Near local eatery and attractions spot. Cons: wooden bed given cracking sound for every move on bed. Air-conditioned blower sound quite loud during night. Both disturbed my sleeping quality. Overall experience is good.

Awesome Stay in Penang
We have a great stay at the hotel, everything was great! All the staffs are friendly and greet you even the cleaners, thumbs up for the staffs! The beds are comfortable, hotel is very clean, nicely decorated and they even have bicycles for you to ride around the neighborhood.

15-20 walk to Old Town. Not too many food options nearby but some great laksa. Building is quirky and nice. Room was big and spacious. Staff very friendly and helpful. Accommodated a very late check in and good communication from our 3x delayed flight. Avoid the room above building’s entry. It is loud from guests coming and going all day.

A week long stay
Positives : room size, shower pressure, replenishment of complimentary products including drinking water daily, super friendly front desk staff, ceiling fan as well as Aircon, down a quiet dead end street away from the hustle of the historical area but within walking distance. Bed was reasonably comfortable. Negatives: cockroaches in the room, shower drain backed up to the point of having to turn the shower off while soaping up to prevent flooding of entire bathroom and despite telling them everyday for 3 days it was not dealt with by the time I left, noise from other guests slamming doors and running along the corridors (wooden floors) was disturbing as was the screaming that occurred more than once (no idea why), noise from the outside street, conversation, car doors slamming, quite late at night, opening of the restaurant across the road early morning as well. Only two hangers in the cupboard . Room fridge was not plugged in on arrival. Felt the furnishings beyond the reception area were sparse and worn and tatty rather than appearing as period pieces. Did not eat at the hotel at all so cannot comment on the restaurant. Did not use the pool either so no comment. Overall a bit disappointed, considering all the other reviews.

The hotel staff were very helpful and friendly and the public areas of the hotel were great. My room itself did seem a little run down though and the shower water was fairly tepid.
