Protea Hotel Centurion

“A great experience.”

My stay was excellent in every way. The staff is courteous, very friendly, and efficient. The facilities are very well maintained; including the rooms, public areas, and grounds. The setting on the lake is very nice with an excellent restaurant in the complex and a major bonus of the mall a block away with excellent shopping and several good restaurants there as well.

The only problem was sorting out the traffic pattern. The resturant was good and the staff exceptionally helpful

Protea hotel at Centurion is fine, the rooms are good (even if the hot and cold taps were reversed!) and well-sized. Being close to Centurion Mall it is great for shopping and eating, although be warned that Pretoria hasn't quite entered the 21st century in regards to late opening. My only criticism is the restaurant. Luckily I mainly had a bed-only tariff so only had a few 'free' breakfasts to my credit. I only had one of those as the restaurant is very poor. The service is non-existent, and if - as is often the case - there are large tour groups there it is almost impossible to get a clean table or a proper selection of food. The restaurant staff did not seem very worried, and while this seems to be a South African trait generally, it is really galling when the rate is so high (R150 for full breakfast). I would not recommend it at all - go to the Mall (but not TOO early for breakfast!) and you'll be fine.

I don't write reviews, but this hotel is worth a review. While obviously upgraded and/or well designed, the front office staff was absolutely horrible. Rude, unresponsive, unrepentent about being unresponsive. The rooms were ok, but the bathroom dingy. I am happy to give second chances, but for this hotel, skip it. Move 200 meters up the road to the Forever Resort which has very comfortable rooms, lovely staff and an out of this world garden space for enjoying your morning coffee or your evening sundowners. From my Protea Waterfront experience, I will NEVER stay at another Protea hotel.
