Bo Phut Beach is one of the longest beaches in Koh Samui, but is divided into distinct sections between Bang Rak Beach to the east and Maenam Beach to the west. In the middle lies Bo Phut town, affectionately referred to as Fisherman’s Village. As one of the oldest villages on the island it has been influenced by everything from traditional Thai and Chinese culture to French colonialists and more recently an influx of tourists. Fisherman’s Village provides an excellent mix of opportunities to entice even the most fickle travellers.
The beach at Bo Phut is not as spectacular as others on the island however, it is certainly worth a visit. All watersports are available along the beach and if you go into the town you should find plenty of options for snorkeling, scuba diving and fishing trips. If you have the time, charter a dive trip to Ang Thong National Marine Park, or take a day trip to Koh Phangan or Koh Tao.
Grab a bite to eat at one of the restaurants in the Fisherman’s Village. Seafood is the specialty, but you’ll find plenty of restaurants offering classic Thai menus. Spend an afternoon at one of the many Chinese teahouses or trawl through the markets looking for a bargain.
Once the sun descends, expect a different crowd in the village. Younger revellers come out to party at some of the island’s funkiest bars and clubs. While the village has plenty of places to party into the evening, it is just as good for those looking for an early night. The night markets on Fridays are suitable for children and there are plenty of restaurants that cater to an older crowd.
Bo Phut is located on the north coast of Koh Samui, two and a half miles(four kilometres) from the airport.
