Charming family owned and operated venue - very peaceful, lovely pool and naturally beautiful property. Staff is wonderful and room was clean and comfortable.
Chose this property based on the wonderful reviews. Honestly, this is a motel. Yes, the grounds are beautiful and the staff is nice but the rooms are outdated, AC barely works (actually broke down in the middle of the night), pool had a muddy water color and old half broker plastic lounges. Bathrooms are extremely outdated and scary looking. There is no view at this property. I was counting minutes to get out from there.

I expected the Resturant to be opened but was closed for dinner. Grounds not well kept up. Areas felt dirty with porches and mats not cleaned. Parking felt insecure until asked to park up but my room.
The staff are amazingly friendly and helpful and the rooms are always clean and nice… The food is delicious and consistent. My only complaint was the condition of the swimming pool but I’ve stayed there many times before and I think it was a one off
Generally the hotel is not in very good condition. A little run down. Gardens are not well kept, disrepair details in rooms. Swimming pool and other areas with paint scraped off. Beach chairs around swimming pool in bad shape. Generally the pool area is not inviting. Seems the hotel has seen better days, probably due to struggles during pandemics. We were expecting more given the many stellar reviews. Dining area is Ok and breakfast was good.
Hotel and staff are wonderful. People there very friendly and helpful. Food at restaurant surprised us with great quality. Perfect place to escape after airport.

It's great to read this! We're happy because you had a great time.
Hope to see you again :)
The grounds of the property are beautiful and the staff was outstanding, especially Katarina who was extremely helpful. The property and our unit were very clean. My only complaint about the property was the extremely hard mattress. It was like sleeping on plywood.

The neighborhood was a little sketchy but this hotel was really nice. You felt like you were in the jungle s little bit. Pretty flowers, neat trees. The cabins were really nice with a porch that had a table and chairs and a hammock! The reception/dining area was very nice. Free breakfast was awesome. The workers were very nice. The only downside was loud animal noises at night.

Hello,
Thank you for your kind comments, we really appreciated them.
Regards,
I stayed here for 3 days. The property is nice and the food is ok. The food is kind of pricey and the breakfast is ok. Downtown is about a 10 minute walk but you can catch a cab for about $1. Its not much to do around this area. The room was nice and beds could be better. I payed for a king size but i got two twin beds pushed together. My room had ants all in the kitchen. The pool is nice but it stayed dirty alot because of the leaves. Next vist to costa rica i probably will stay some where else. The staff is real nice, they even helped me order a pizza ($15). Taxi from the airport to the hotel is $45 for each trip.
Just stayed here one night before flight out next morning. Seems pleasant, wish we could have enjoyed the pool.
Had dinner and breakfast . Dinner was good, a little pricier than we found at most other restaurants in CR. Breakfast was included, few selections of some meats, scrambled eggs, fruit, toast and juices and coffee and teas.
Our bungalow was in a beautiful setting with well maintained gardens, good pool. Access to Atenas by taxi was easy, costing about $2-3 each way.
The restaurant was good, the food tasty.
Douglas and Frank went out of their way to help us with forward travel arrangements.
The only suggestion we have would be that the shower tiles be made nonslip.
I suppose there may be some Costa Ricans who would describe Colinas del Sol as a "hotel". I would not! My first experience as a Girl Scout in a hostel-type environment was 100% better. Yes, I carefully read all its reviews on the Internet before I booked. Since I returned, I have re-read them only to realize how misleading they are. Example: the recliner lined pool skirt advertised had not one single chair; the pristine stainless steel cooking utensils shown in the pictures were actually dented and rusty; the ceiling fan was less than half the size needed & worst of all, there was NO Air Conditioning. We left ASAP; still, my request for a refund was denied.
This was our first time visiting Atenas and we're glad we stayed at Hotel Colinas. Facilities are well maintained and the staff is friendly and helpful. The restaurant on location has great food and a very nice atmosphere. We highly recommend for anyone traveling to Atenas.
The superior rooms are open and spacious, clean and have a kitchenette. Good beds, cable tv and a restaurant. Friendly staff. Nice big pool surrounded by trees with lots of birds. A nice place to relax

Stop Over between Coasts
One night stay traveling between coasts. Some rooms worn out (damaged screen doors etc., but requested change and the staff came through). Very nice relaxing pool area.
Breakfast OK.
For couples, there is no privacy as the curtains are not sufficiently opaque; Jalousie windows in poor repair and cannot be closed; No A/C. Worse than the room's ant infestation, male staff constantly passed cabin to flirt with my girlfriend. Rickety noisy king bed frame w/ 2 twin mattresses put together; cheap pillows and linens. Cheap furniture; outdated appliances; no microwave; poor plumbing.
Breakfast bar often found without staff; no attention to refilling food selections; zero meat option. Dishes were always dirty. Restaurant unlikely to pass cleanliness inspection. Breakfast closed well before 9:30 AM closing time.
Hotel has 15 cabins which should be quaint, until hotel bussed in 60 locals who invaded our quaint and quiet environment in favor of hotel profits. We were in the pool scene of Caddy Shack. Hotel used the cabin next ours as their Cabana so we had 60 neighbors for our Saturday. One local we found relaxing in OUR hammock.
Hotel should: Replace beds with real king mattresses with linens worthy of its customers. Jamming 2 twin mattresses on a creaky and rickety bed frame is not worthy.
Split A/C units are inexpensive now; install them, both for the comfort and privacy of your guests. It can get very hot in the rooms and neighbor cabin guests can hear everything from your cabin.
Replace portable stoves with microwave ovens.
STOP bussing in locals for profit. Hotel is killing its business by destroying the quiet environment its guests expect.
I arrived late the first night and in the morning I had a mishap in my room. The owner apologized and took responsibility and moved to me to a better room so I stayed to more nights. I am glad I did because it is a very peaceful setting and the staff is very effective and friendly. A hidden oasis for sure. I would highly recommend it to unwind. They even offer yoga in the morning for a small fee. If you are debating about spending more money for a bigger room do it. It is worth every penny and more. The cheaper rooms are adequate but a bit cramped even for one person for ore than a night or two.
This hotel was a jewel. The staff were very nice. The restaurant served wonderful breakfasts. We got ours included with the price of the hotel. The room was surface clean and tidy but not really deep cleaned. (cobwebs in corners of the high ceilings)
The hotel itself was a lovely tropical jungle setting with unusual birds calling out and nesting in the palm trees.
I would definitely stay here again as it is a bargain and the staff are so helpful.
It is walking distance to town (about 3/4 mile) with some hills and not many sidewalks. Doable for those with good shoes and not afraid of a hill.
The hotel is located very close to Atenas and in a lush garden environment. The owner and staff could not be more accommodating. The food was delicious. The pool was large and clean. And the room was a good deal for the inexpensive cost. The surrounding gardens teem with wildlife including interesting birds that build large nests hanging from the palm trees. We'll be back!
